    Pros

    - some decent teams and projects in the firm
    - lots of smart people to learn from and network with

    Cons

    - politics!
    - doesn't pay younger analysts all that well

    Advice to Management

Pay you younger analysts more or you will continue to haemorrhage talent to Silicon Valley!

I worked at Goldman Sachs full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent salary, well educated and eloquent people. Great place to work in IT if you have minimal or no tech skill, but you like to talk a lot about things that should be done instead of doing them.

    Cons

Proprietary technology - no reusable skills. Long hours on the phone (as a software engineer) instead of development/design. Most of people never worked anywhere else - this is not because they are so good, but rather they wouldn't get a job anywhere else. Perfect GS strategy to keep employees.

    Advice to Management

Instead of hiring two mediocre people, find a single decent person.

    Pros

Great for the CV even if you only stick it for a few years great experience - the talk isn't always walked - go for it and keep taking the tablets ;-)

    Cons

Long hours a face time culture , don't be the first out the door even if your done everything you can for the day - which will be rare ! bonus was shockingly poor - or did my face not fit ! 3 years of a weekly season ticket , never felt it was long term - would I go back , Yes , wife says no way

    Advice to Management

Maybe it's changed in 10 years but I hear not

    Pros

Great people. You get a lot of responsibility quickly, and the hierarchy is very meritocratic so you do not feel held back. You also get job offers from competitors and other companies rather quickly.

    Cons

Very stressful, seems like the workload is higher than in other banks. All the desks on the trading floor are permanently short staffed so the hours are longer, but the salary is (or should be at least) higher.

One thing that annoyed my seniors and discouraged juniors, myself included, was that lateral hires got significantly better salaries than homegrown talent. That doesn't really inspire juniors or promote loyalty. Short term thinking.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on what juniors want and motivate people with other things than just the salary.

I worked at Goldman Sachs (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Tough but intellectually stimulating environment. Lots of mentoring and emphasis on team culture. Benefits to junior bankers taken seriously but is very team dependent

    Cons

Work life balance is not the best and some teams can be more stressful than others.
Not everything is as meritocratic as it seems

I worked at Goldman Sachs full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Smart people with good knowledge in Finance and some knowledge in technology

    Cons

Old technology and apps two decade behind silicon valley in several divisions

Rough environment where people can shout based on seniority and vice versa is not possible when seniors making mistake

Young people have miserable life these days and several are being asked to let go if management think stopping their work won't affect business directly irrespective all hard work

    Advice to Management

    Please don't lie to employees

I worked at Goldman Sachs as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Strongest brand in the sector with extreme name recognition.
High levels of professionalism - People respond earnestly to requests and questions and never do things halfways

    Cons

Often dull. Very 'siloed' in respect of work-load. Made all the worst by the long hours and face-time expectations. Otherwise just a very standard corporate atmosphere which is demotivating

    Advice to Management

Change the structure of the workplace. Think from bottom-up and what really good analysis would look like, and where it'd come from.
