I have been working at Golub Capital full-time for less than a year

    Pros

After a short amount of time with the firm, it's easy to see that Golub Capital has created a team of incredibly smart people, encourages a collaborative culture and is growing at an accelerated rate. The firm also strives to retain its entrepreneurial spirit through innovation, technology and flexibility.

    Cons

    None that I have encountered.

I have been working at Golub Capital full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Swag - although nothing that stands out. Most firms offer silly branded things like coffee mugs and attire.

    Cons

Culture is extremely set in its ways. No room for innovation. "Best in class" tools and programs are implemented here that might have been considered great 20 years ago. No flexibility. It's all about showing up and making sure you're seen at the office. No diversity.

I have been working at Golub Capital full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Management is amazing. They are smart, careful and considerate. I am proud to work for an organization that is as successful as Golub Capital and that has built a culture of "doing right."

    Cons

The free Friday lunches are catered by the same 10-15 restaurants. More variety would be great!

I worked at Golub Capital full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Lots of cool swag that I can't wear because I'd never want to promote a place like Golub Capital.

    Cons

Where do I begin. The CEO & President are completely out of touch with the admin team. They've created an entire company that looks at the admin team like these bottom of the barrel morons. If you ever have the horrific opportunity of communicating with LEG or DBG, they go out of their way to speak in an extremely condescending tone to make you feel especially inferior and little. The admin team is treated like trash and kept busy with and picked on if they staple pages wrong or use paper clips instead of butterfly pins. They genuinely think so little of the entire department so ANY hope you have for growth, toss it out the window. There is absolutely favorites among the team. Some members of the admin team, although they're still looked down on, aren't treated as offensively as others. Pay for the admins is FAR BELOW market. They will add extra work to your plate without ever renegotiating your pay. As I mentioned, the senior people (mainly CEO & President) have created this culture where there is no respect shown to the admins, making even the more junior analysts and associates treat the team with the same belittlement. I've never felt so useless as I did going into work at Golub every day.

I worked at Golub Capital full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Friday lunch, awesome swag & parties, nice offices, decent compensation, the original leaders of the firm and Golubs are extremely intelligent which has lead to great success for the company

    Cons

Siloed roles with limited growth - people are not promoted from within, almost entirely white male leaders (lack of diversity), corporate culture and politics on par with Game of Thrones (yes, really), very high turnover at all levels, highly bureaucratic, people are micromanaged and asked to document everything they do throughout the day, month and year, people are intentionally hired for roles they are overqualified for - easy to become bored, little to no mentoring and coaching, little to no learning or training, absolutely no flexibility, no ability to work from home, very few vacation days that staff are highly discouraged to take any time off, lower level staff ruled by fear, senior level staff feel like they are stuck in "golden handcuffs"

I have been working at Golub Capital full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Process oriented. You'll learn a lot. Young and fast pace environment. Stable and growing business.

    Cons

Pay and benefits are below market. For every extra dollar they pay you they expect you to put in more work, even if it's the bare minimum annual raise that you earned for working hard.

I have been working at Golub Capital full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Golub has a good brand reputation in the market. Most people in the finance world know that if you survived Golub, you can pretty much survive anything. Management has been trying to improve pay and benefits in order to stop the high levels of turnover.

    Cons

From the moment you start working at Golub, it's every man for himself. Training and mentorship are nonexistent, and upper management is committed to ruling by fear which trickles down to management at lower levels. It is not uncommon to hear people yelling in their offices or to watch an officer of the company publicly humiliate a junior employee. Gossip, office politics, and backstabbing are rampant. Most people are unhappy and fearful, so they lash out. Also, as the Company has grown, it has become increasingly bureaucratic, and more and more time is being wasted on pet projects of upper management. If you are actively considering a job here, I promise you are more than qualified to get a job elsewhere. Do yourself a favor, and pass this one up.

I worked at Golub Capital full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Free lunch every Friday, great swag/gifts, and the comp was good.

    Cons

Golub's company culture is old school, with little to no room for work/life balance and flexibility. The company is very hierarchical, with a top-down approach to almost everything. Unfortunately, favoritism runs rampant and you will notice there are select individuals who have more privileges than others. The management is fear-based, and borderline verbally abusive in some cases. The structure is very siloed and projects can be held up because of a lack of ownership by teams. This combined with a lack of willingness to adapt to change made for a frustrating and toxic environment that was not conducive for career advancement and personal well-being.
