    Pros

Fantastic people/culture with a good balance between work and personal time. There is also a vibrant social life in the office which is greatly facilitated by the lack of snooty and otherwise holier-than-thou attorneys which can be fairly commonplace in large corporate firms. The Real Estate practice is very highly regarded and the firm is expanding at an extraordinary pace.

    Cons

It's Boston so the compensation levels are not the same as New York and the extent to which you're likely to pick up huge multinational clients with complex legal needs, while possible, is substantially decreased. This is offset, however, by smaller startups from the BioTech and Life Science mecca of Cambridge if you are interested in that area of law.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up. The expansion and branding initiatives have been a big boost to employees.

Excellent, hand-picked team. A spirit of generosity and collaboration.

    Cons

Poor/outdated software applications for Billing, Records and Kronos (!???).

    Advice to Management

Update your applications, especially Billing software! It's time.

    Pros

The upper managment truly cares about everyone. People are genuine and caring. You do not need to walk around with armor to deflect the knives being thrown in your back.

    Cons

Middle management is always changing and not for the better. For the most part you are treated as a responsible adult not a child who needs a scolding. Second and third chances are given for misdeeds.

    Advice to Management

Don't stop caring and sharing. Things are improving in the moral department because you care and listen.

    Pros

Up-to-date technology and training department. Great benefits. Good people.

    Cons

Washington, DC is an expensive city to be part of. Parking is expensive, but there is a good metro/subway and bus system.

    Pros

Laid back atmosphere. Smart, enjoyable people to work with. As good as "Big Law" gets. As a new corporate law attorney, I had a lot of opportunities to explore different areas and learn what I liked and didn't like. It gave me a broader understanding of law and business.

    Cons

Nothing different from any Big Law firm. Long hours, work weekends and holidays as needed (which is often). Big Law is like a constant sprint on a marathon course. Wasn't for me in the long run, but Goodwin was a great firm to be at while I dabbled in Big Law.

    Advice to Management

It's been a few years since I was at Goodwin, but I remember wishing I had more opportunities to learn the business of the business. We're good at working for clients, but the firm didn't do much to teach us how to manage a law firm book of business.

    Pros

Very employee friendly. You work with smart people. They make a difference with their pro-bono work. Top tier firm.

    Cons

As they are a law firm, the wheels of change do not move very swiftly. Decisions can take a bit of time to get made. They are very prudent with their spending - which is both a positive and a negative.

    Advice to Management

Spend more on staff bonuses. The current structure does not incentivize staff in the least. Simplify the review process and give a section for the managers to provide a "what else you need to know about this year" discourse.

I worked at Goodwin Procter full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

This is as good as "Big Law" gets! Engaging work, complex legal problems, top-notch lawyers, fantastic formal training programs, great mentors, lots of constructive feedback on work product, and a great group of lawyers who socialize on a regular basis. Great place to work, sharpen skills and have fun.

    Cons

Big law hours, up-or-out system (like all Big Law)

    Cons

Nothing that comes to mind of the top of my head. Keep doing what you're doing

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what your doing. Positive attitude and great energy. Don't change one single thing
