I have been working at Goodwin full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great benefits Nice offices Much better for attorneys - a lot of perks

    Cons

Expected to work long hours Management only looks out for attorneys Management does not care about work/life balance Short staffed and lots of pressure to work the job of several

    Advice to Management

Remember that your other staff supports attorneys.

I have been working at Goodwin full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Competitive compensation for attorneys, practice group leaders that actually care about associates being happy (may vary practice group to practice group - but mine is great), endless training opportunities, great benefits, very supportive of flexible work arrangements, very supportive of doing pro bono work, at the associate level at least if you're a jerk you end up being shown to the door.

    Cons

Like any firm, there are long hours, travel is often required. Like any firms, there can be internal politics that aren't always fair or logical.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget about the people - they are what make the place great, and make clients want to use the firm.

I have been working at Goodwin part-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Fringe benefits, beautiful seaport district offices, many in office celebrations that promote camaraderie. Great benefits package, 24 hour admin help available for attys. Able to easily telecommute when needed.

    Cons

As with any other large law firm, the hours can be tough at times. No other cons come to mind!

    "Admin Staff"

    I worked at Goodwin full-time

    Pros

It's very easy to get comfortable here. Goodwin gives great benefits and pretty good pay (could definitely be higher, but that's just about everywhere). For the most part, if you're looking to put in your 40 hours, get paid and have a great work/life balance - you'll like working here.

    Cons

The biggest con at Goodwin is professional development for the admin staff. There's virtually none, so it's not the place to develop your career (if that's what you're looking to do). The growth path for admin staff is non-existent. It's a great place to kick off your career - you'll definitely get some standard office experience.

    Advice to Management

If you want to get the best out of people, invest in growing their careers. There are a lot of people who have been around for a long time, but they're not what's going to ultimately grow the firm. If you want to stick with the status quo, you're on the right path.

I worked at Goodwin full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Up-to-date technology and training department. Great benefits. Good people.

    Cons

Washington, DC is an expensive city to be part of. Parking is expensive, but there is a good metro/subway and bus system.
