I worked at Goodyear full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

For many years Goodyear was a great place to work and had great benefits. That all changed when they started letting finance people come into the ranks of the sales divisions.

    Cons

Top level executives (VP's) should not have authority to eliminate jobs.

    Advice to Management

Sales is the backbone of the Company. Back when there were Regions/District offices all across the US there needed to be some changes. But instead of removing the low performers they kept them and got rid of those with many years of service forcing them to retire or relocate. Top performers got to that level because they were top performers.

I worked at Goodyear full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Goodyear has a well defined plan, both operations and administrative. The company is flexible and during my time there, shifted from an inventory based production to a just in time production schedule and beat the recession. The company is strict on protocol, procedure and deadlines, but with more than 70,000 employees globally, that is necessary. As with any large company there is a lot of "red tape" but overall, a good place to work, as long as you can thrive in a huge, Fortune 100 setting.

    Cons

Lack of flexibility in some areas - too many baby-boomers in management still clinging to 1960s and 1970s management style, but the good ones have been adapting and the others have been retiring.
Sometimes too caught up on following procedure and not able to understand that one size does NOT fit all. Again, related to a huge, aged management team that is being replaced through attrition.

    Advice to Management

Listen more to the GenX, GenY and Millennial employees. Continue to adapt, change and be flexible while also continuing to "Protect Our Good Name."

    Pros

Goodyear is a well known corporation that has tried to treat employees well.

    Cons

They are now looking for younger people just out of college for a younger look. It seems as if company knowledge and loyalty aren't as important anymore.

    Advice to Management

I haven't worked with ALL management but there are some that try to make things better for ALL employees.

    Pros

Great Company with good officers and products

    Cons

Next level management team is more caught up in politics and gossip than managing associates or project associate quickly get over wheeled and burnt out.

    Advice to Management

Get an HR team that cares for associates not just new "process improvements" to the review process no one uses

    Pros

    Lots of different opportunities
    Great people (in general)
    Good Experience

    Cons

    Low pay
    Too much Hierarchy
Don't get to make great money ($150k plus) until you've put in 5-7 years
Old school "buts in seats" , "100 yr old manufacturing" mindset

    Advice to Management

Profitability is up but employees don't stay very long unless they come in at the upper middle management, or have already been in their "black hole" for 15-20 years and are waiting to ride it out.

    Pros

Room for growth in most areas, opportunities to learn all parts of a manufacturing business, be part of a global brand

    Cons

Culture can be difficult, a manufacturing company is not a CPG company

    Advice to Management

Creating more visibility around our journey as a company is helping the younger generation of workers connect with the company and will create positive results

    Pros

I have been with the company for just under a year and have been very pleased with the organization as a whole. The involvement with the community and outreach to those in need has resonated with me. Additionally, the feeling of family and the overall understanding and appreciation of work life balance is apparent. Finally, working is such a beautiful building which offers a number of amenities is always appreciated. I would highly recommend Goodyear.

    Cons

Nothing at this point comes to mind.
