I worked at Goodyear full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Goodyear has a well defined plan, both operations and administrative. The company is flexible and during my time there, shifted from an inventory based production to a just in time production schedule and beat the recession. The company is strict on protocol, procedure and deadlines, but with more than 70,000 employees globally, that is necessary. As with any large company there is a lot of "red tape" but overall, a good place to work, as long as you can thrive in a huge, Fortune 100 setting.

    Cons

Lack of flexibility in some areas - too many baby-boomers in management still clinging to 1960s and 1970s management style, but the good ones have been adapting and the others have been retiring.
Sometimes too caught up on following procedure and not able to understand that one size does NOT fit all. Again, related to a huge, aged management team that is being replaced through attrition.

    Advice to Management

Listen more to the GenX, GenY and Millennial employees. Continue to adapt, change and be flexible while also continuing to "Protect Our Good Name."

I worked at Goodyear full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good people can be found that you can work with and rely on
Sense of pride among the older employees

    Cons

OLD SCHOOL (ala 1972) management = old bubba club
UNION = difficult to work with, no responsibility, no accountability
Too much time/energy wasting money trying to save money. Sometimes it COSTS money to run a worldwide enterprise.

    Advice to Management

Figure out how to rein in the union. Quit nickle and diming your plants to death! Hold people accountable, and allow them to be responsible without micromanaging, or thinking there's only one way to do things.

I worked at Goodyear full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, nice, respectful home office and upper management. A lot of people who sure look to be working very hard for this massive company. If you like to travel, there is plenty of opportunity for it.

    Cons

Semi monthly pay dates, retail manager means you live there, and you will. There were some internal problems with associates in the store I was at, and that can happen anywhere, so I don't fault the company for that, but it puts a strain on things. The computer "system" was out of date in 1979, it is slow, frustrating, repetitive, and on and on and on. There's not enough room to degrade that system fully. It is miserable. If you don't want to travel, that could be bad news.

    Advice to Management

Honestly, aside of the "holding all service work" problem due to budget, it isn't much different than any other retail place I've worked. It is laid back enough, but you still have to work. The hours aren't great, but they're not terrible. It's not a bad job, but it's just not a fit for everyone. I don't see any big sweeping changes that need to be made.
