    I worked at Goodyear full-time

    Pros

Overall I enjoyed working for goodyear. The store manager was a great supervisor. By far one of the best people i have worked for. The service advisor however was one of the worst. The company gives you great training and provides you the opportunity to move up in positions of increased responsibility. Overall a good experience.

    Cons

The benefits are not anywhere near good. Especially considering the low salaries. When 3 mechanics are able to turn 6000 dollars a day in sales and work for one store they should not have to pay an insurance premium of 150 a month for themselves.

    Advice to Management

Take a hard look at the ethical views of lower management. A mechanic should not have to scare a service manager into being truthful to customers by not overcharging for service

I have been working at Goodyear full-time

    Pros

Good pay, good benefits, great people. No complaints at all on these, in fact this is the best company I've ever worked for in terms of pay, benefits, etc. People at the Gadsden plant are generally friendly and easy to get along with.

    Cons

Production equipment is falling apart. There is no preventive maintenance program, machines just run until they break, at which time a band-aid fix is applied and the machine is put back into service until the next time it has a failure. Management is extremely 'penny wise and pound foolish' in this regard.

There is a big need for more maintenance personnel. Maintenance departments are short staffed and maintenance techs are generally very frustrated at the status quo.

    Advice to Management

The implementation of a scheduled PM program is badly needed. What little bit of machine down-time which would be required to do PM's would be more than made up in reduced scrap, increased quality, and machine reliability.

Hire just a few more maintenance personnel in each department and let them do things properly. Dedicate one or two maintenance techs in each department to a PM program and you'll see a dramatic turnaround.

    Pros

    Lots of different opportunities
    Great people (in general)
    Good Experience

    Cons

    Low pay
    Too much Hierarchy
Don't get to make great money ($150k plus) until you've put in 5-7 years
Old school "buts in seats" , "100 yr old manufacturing" mindset

    Advice to Management

Profitability is up but employees don't stay very long unless they come in at the upper middle management, or have already been in their "black hole" for 15-20 years and are waiting to ride it out.
