I worked at Google full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

First off, you get to work on problems at huge scale. Even the simplest issues can become remarkably thorny and non-trivial at such scale.
Second, Google has arguably one of the best developer tools in the industry. It helps you be many times more efficient than the average.
Third, Google's hiring bar is very high; so your co-workers are often brilliant, and you are seldom slowed down by dependencies on other engineers/teams.

    Cons

Google is large, and so each Product Area / Product / Team have their own sub-culture. You might fit well in some, and be a miserable in others. There really is no good way to tell.
Having brilliant co-workers is a double-edged sword. This also implies a lot of competition for interesting projects, and the bar for getting a promotion is so high that it is not uncommon for people to get promoted for over 5 years or more.

I have been working at Google full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Google is one of the better companies to work for. The fierce competition for top engineers means lavish perks and excellent work conditions.

    Cons

Some manager are simply bad. Obstacles to getting your work done. Fortunately Google limits the damage a bad manager can do to your career.

I worked at Google full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It's Google. Everybody knows the pros. They're all true. Free food, free full-service coffee bars, on-site massage, hair polishing, whatever. Lots of really really big systems to work on. You get to learn about some really cool stuff before the rest of the world.

    Cons

The work environment can be very stressful. Open-office floor plans dominate. They set high-pressure expectations intentionally, to make people strive harder. If you have an anxiety disorder, this is *terrible* and you will not thrive here. Attempting any sort of disability accommodations process will become an N-way telephone game from hell.

    Advice to Management

Learn about mental health. Learn about alternative management strategies. Don't assume what works for one employee will work for everyone. Advocate for your employees, especially when dealing with HR.

    Pros

Smart and hardworking people all around you, interesting projects. Unparalleled level of technical support for any possible needs. Fantastic benefits. In the end it's more of a lifestyle than just a workplace.

    Cons

Pressure of going "up or out". Huge difference between working in Mountain View versus any other office.

I have been working at Google full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They have an amazing management and incentive structure. Interviewing and promotion are hard experiences, but they ensure fairness more than any other company I've seen. Most people at Google really take "don't be evil" seriously, and try their hardest to do the right thing. You have an opportunity to affect the lives of billions of people, at least by a tiny bit. The development tools are lightyears beyond anything I've ever seen outside Google.

    Cons

It's a big company with a lot of smart people, so it's hard to stand out. It's easy to feel unnecessary. Not everyone has as great a management chain as I do.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing.

I worked at Google (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Opportunities to enjoy perks and get involved with side projects. If you are looking for distractions, there are plenty ;-)

    Cons

Hard to achieve work/life balance. Not enough advancement opportunities in remote offices. Centralized management and decision making makes it hard to start initiatives/projects in sattelite office.

I worked at Google as an intern

    Pros

Strong environment to learn. My host engineers and the other engineers on my team were happy to help me with any problems I had, while also giving me much responsibility and the ability to direct my project how I wanted. Great perks and great food!

    Cons

Sometimes feeling like a very very small puzzle piece in a very big puzzle (which is probably likely with many big tech companies). The experience can be "hit or miss" depending on the project and team placement as an intern. I had a positive experience, but others did not mesh well with their team.
