I have been working at Google as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Fantastic working environment. My position probably takes about 10 hours a month, leaving me ample time to do other things to improve myself and my position. Plenty of freedom to work on and improve my position with virtually no oversight, which is another way of saying: with complete trust. All of it goes under the Google banner on my resume. My group is fantastic. For the first 8 months of my tenure, I only spoke to one person for more than 20 minutes a month. Yet, they were still paying me. This resulted in no new deliverables required to offset the paycheck they were delivering. Then my responsibilities broadened just by the fact that I was able to deliver because I spent 8 months improving my position. Each one another bullet point on the Google anointed resume

    Cons

If you're looking for a career, this is not the place for you. Google knows that, and you must know that. If you need to cleanse your resume with a one or two year stint at a brand company, this is it.
Also, I don't know if this is a con, for a technology company, they are absolutely afraid of computers. It really gives you an opportunity to learn and try out new things. Another great thing is Google gives you the tools to do it. There's python on every computer. The pipes to financial data is self serve to google sheets and html apps you can build yourself. Oh here's a con, they lock the computers so you can't get real python extensions like iron python, cython or excel extensions. You can get anaconda. They also let you have your own linux instances with almost unlimited access to extensions so that has really improved my nlp game.
Oh, here's a real con. Their snack access is ridiculous. I'm gaining 2 pounds a month on snacks I didn't even know existed. Shortbreads aren't enough at Google, it's Earl Gray shortbreads. Double chocolate chocolate chip cookies. Just last week I was complaining about tropical fruit biscotti because they don't have pineapples and mango in Italy. And then you don't get health care as a TVC. I have to get out before this job kills me.

    Pros

Incredible team mates make working there inspiring, challenging and fun. Team member employees treated contractors such as myself with respect and were authentic and appreciative

    Cons

Google seems to becoming more of a top down mgmt company. Many more rules and approvals are being put in place which hinders what is normally a lightning fast, get-it-done-now environment

    Pros

Get to work with some very talented people

    Cons

Too many young people. Felt that there was less diversity. Many at senior role with very little experience and skills to manage teams

    Advice to Management

Hire more older people not just fresh graduates who can bring in more experience.

I have been working at Google full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It's overwhelming when you first join but Google gives its employees the time and support they need to get up to speed with all the amazing and crazy internal tools.

Plus, they take care of you. You're never in need of something to get the job done.

The fellow people they hire are all very interesting and friendly folks (in general)

    Cons

Like any large company, the leaders frequently are out of touch with the individual contributors. Many times over the past year it has felt like leadership has been dismissing the sentiment of its employees.

Also, the promotion process largely depends on your manger. Not on your performance.

    Advice to Management

Care about your people. Not about their results. Results will come naturally.

And for anyone in HR reading this and wondering how anyone could think this, try to seek out those pockets of culture within Google where this is the case. They certainly do exist.
