"Land of opportunities, great perks, amazing package but zero work life balance"

I have been working at Google full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I work in Sales at the EU HQ. There's plenty of pros to call out:
    - great learning and development opportunities, 1st class training
    - on the big scale: diverse culture and and an environment that's thriving on that
    - salary, bonuses and all other perks like free food
    - events, both professional and fun

    Cons

    - Work is never ending. Literally, you can't finish anything as the pace is so fast by the time you get something done surely there's 3 other things waiting on your to do list.
    - Hence, long hrs and really bad work life balance. Everyone is super competitive at Google so if you don't want to be left behind you need to match the pace and that means constantly going above and beyond. Management just says you shouldn't be working outside hrs and prioritize but they don't want to go into the reality of it and go with a head-down approach.... In addition when it comes to recognition and promotion obviously they build on this type of performance as benchmark so you are screwed if you try to actually have a life.
    - Flexibility is a myth... some teams are better than other's but most cases you either don't have time to enjoy perks like going to the gym, getting a massage or you are frowned upon if you do. Not to mention work hr flexibility or working from home, big no no's.

    Advice to Management

Really dig deep into your employee's well being (not just scratch the surface) and do what's right, set common standards and help employees be more productive by having a better work life balance.

I have been working at Google as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Amazing people, very international, insane amount of possibilities, good compensation

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Google full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Especially at entry level, you can earn well.
Given the free food, stocks, yearly bonuses, and other perks, you will have plenty of disposable income and security.
You get to understand what the world's foremost tech company does, and how it all looks on the inside.
Most senior staff are happy to have a coffee with you and give career advice.

    Cons

You have to work intensely for at least 9 hours a day - more if you want to ever get promoted.
    Promotion is a popularity contest.
Metrics you're measured on are easy to game and don't make sense as honest ratings of the quality of your work.
Middle management seems fairly disinterested in your career progress, perhaps because they are stretched too thin.
Non-full-time employees get a sour deal, having to do most of the monotone work for much less pay.
HR is generally non-responsive in case issues arise, or brush you off with predetermined responses.
Personality cults around senior staff, whether merited or not. (I am uncomfortable with personality cults even when a person has achieved a great deal).
Career growth for salespeople and technicians; if you are a more creative type, you will not be satisfied with your options.
Introverts are not valued and you are "subtly" challenged to change who you are at the core, in order to gain vapid popularity points known as "presence". It doesn't matter how good you are at your job otherwise.

    Advice to Management

Stop talking like you care, and start acting like it. We know your job is to impress upper management; we can help you do that if you take time to actually understand what our jobs entail, and are compassionate about our needs and concerns.
