I have been working at Google full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Massive scale, excellent food, and vast majority of colleagues are fantastic to work with.

    Cons

Can be bureaucratic, and office politics matter a lot.

I have been working at Google full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - competitive compensation and good benefits - very smart colleagues - generally honest and transparent internal culture - incredible opportunities if you can find them

    Cons

    - super high stress, depending on the team and role - nosedive on faith in executive leadership since Sundar Pichai, Ruth Porat, and Kent Walker started driving the company (not living up to Google values) - guaranteed product thrash on virtually everything not already making serious revenue - general lack of empathy among leaders and in what's valued in people managers

    Advice to Management

Stop burning user trust and don't earn Facebook's ruthless and duplicitous reputation. Holding true to values is the only difference between building utopia and building Black Mirror.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Google full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Great benefits and salary - Fascinating product and technical challenges - Lots of opportunity to grow/learn/change your career focus

    Cons

    - Work life balance is pretty brutal - If you are not an engineer, it can feel like an extremely conventional company - Struggling to scale/maintain the culture that made it great.

    Advice to Management

Creating better/more/more accepted paths to part-time work would be extremely helpful for diversity and inclusion efforts.

I have been working at Google full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Outstanding benefits, competitive compensation - Big focus on employee well-being and happiness - Great internal culture - Fantastic food, and 3 meals a day offered in major offices - Beautifully designed and fun offices - A huge amount of trust is placed in employees - Extremely transparent company - Managers aren't overbearing on things like work hours—a lot of autonomy - People are candid and direct...

    Cons

    - Onboarding is a very steep learning curve due to all the jargon, internal tools, internal software tools/languages, and new processes to learn - All the home-grown stuff makes it hard to keep up with what the rest of the world is doing - Bottom-up culture promotes innovation but lack of enforced decision-making can make things messy internally (e.g. why Google has so many chat apps) - Engineers are the heart of...

I have been working at Google full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Google pays very well, only to be beat by Facebook (or so I've heard).

    Cons

The jobs they give you at Google are sometimes menial of you're not on the right project or in the right group or reporting to the right person. There's very little oppty to get promoted. But they pay incredibly well so it's hard to leave.

    Advice to Management

Promote more and more often. Create more levels if you have to. People need a sense of others. Pay is not enough for very smart ambitious people.

I have been working at Google full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The people. I'm the dumbest person around. So much to learn every day! The products. Every problem is a big problem. Every product has tremendous potential. The impact. Everything needs to be moving Billions (people, $, etc). The potential is incredible!

    Cons

Large company. Lots of time spent managing this, but it's not tremendously political.
