I worked at Google as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good welfare, free food, lots of activities, and impressed infrastructure.

    Cons

Strongly feeling about no impact in company, even I finished a project that is fairly important.

    Advice to Management

Nothing to say, because it is really hard to manage such big company.

    Pros

You can learn a lot from internal materials if you want to. Great culture.
Perks, teammates are awesome. You can enjoy free food in lots of cafes.

    Cons

Salary is fair. Work is not challenging enough. Experiences vary in different teams. Some teams are good while some teams are not.
My manager isn't nice to me. He didn't trust me and didn't give me fair reviews. He didn't give me enough help either in my work or in my career development. I won't recommend my team to any of my friend.

    Advice to Management

They might need to educate managers about how to manage a team and how to give feedbacks to the employees to help them grow.

    Pros

    -Free food

-Very young management and college-like atmosphere

-Google's market dominance and absence of significant competitors

-Potential for high salaries at the higher management levels

    -Very smart people

    Cons

-Low compensation for the lower positions

    -Limited promotion opportunities

-Most people here are over qualified for the type of work they do, resulting in lack of challenge.

-Becoming increasingly bureaucratic as it grows, which means more budget approvals and red tape.

-Hard to diffirentiate yourself amongst all the smart people, making it harder to advance.

-The lower pay in Google is supposed to be balanced out by all the 'perks' provided to you in the office, however unless you think that someone else knows better your consumption habits, you would probably want to have the cash instead!

    Advice to Management

Be more open to new ideas and encourage cross-team collaboration.

I worked at Google as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great perks (food, gym), great kudos.

    Cons

Was not inspired by the work I was doing, there are lots of smart people doing very mundane jobs.

    Advice to Management

    Push the interns harder.

I worked at Google as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

TGIF, or the Friday happy hours were awesome and there was good food. The work culture too was very relaxed.

    Cons

I particularly was not happy with the low salary given in Africa when our peers elsewhere were earning four figures. We were paid $500 a month!

    Advice to Management

    Look into Africa compensation!

I have been working at Google as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Working at Google opens jobs for better jobs in the IT industry. Linkedin, Facebook, Baidu, they all pay more.

    Cons

I was interviewed to work with SMB Services which means you will talk 4 hours daily with angry customers on the phone. It´s a call center. That´s not why I graduated from Brazil´s best university for. Stupid job and extremely stressfull. Bad management, mine was only worried about her organic dietary restrictions and keeping her hair blond instead of providing support for her employees.

    Advice to Management

You cannot rely on the name Google forever and keep doing bsusiness led by stupid recently graduated from University employees.

    Pros

People are smart and very friendly, the perks are unbeatable, the pay is fair for corporate world, and there are always new interesting things going on.

    Cons

Way too many meetings (can fill half of your daily calendar), sometimes poor internal information management (getting info on an earlier project can only be done by talking to someone who may be gone for weeks, rather than any centralized info mgmt center).

    Advice to Management

I'm sure many of these things have been improved over the past few years, but I think the toughest thing will be giving people opportunities for growth, especially with such a young management team.

"A great place for software engineers, but not researchers"

Current Employee - Intern in Mountain View, CA

    Pros

Total compensation is very good. Benefits are good, too. Free food, drinks, and stuff. Very flexible work environment. Flat hierarchy of management. Huge codebases to start with. Good for software engineers to develop skills. Good to put on resume.

    Cons

Work pressure is big. The company likes code better than research ideas. Research progress is slow due to the constraints on the tools.

    Advice to Management

Google research can be more dedicated on advancing the state-of-the-art to compete with other industrial research labs such as Microsoft Research and IBM T.J. Watson Research Center.
