I worked at Google as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Amazing company, really cares about employees. Google is definitely starting to care a lot more about the importance and integration of design into its products. Food, activities, quirky culture, ecstatic, vibrant atmosphere, all employees are amazing to interact with, many opportunities to learn and grow.

    Cons

Internal engineering-backlash toward design. Former design coworkers would regularly hear engineers complain about design decisions. Building half the product is what is favored over making it really polished before released. The mindset that "Google is and always will be an engineering company." needs to change to "Google is a company that cares about people."

Contractors are treated like second-class employees. This is unacceptable. Period.

    Advice to Management

    Let the design flowwwwww

I worked at Google as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

You will learn a ton and truly live the life of a pampered employee over your summer internship. Massage chairs, 3 free meals per day, unlimited drinks on tap.

    Cons

Honestly you will most likely be a very small cog in a very large machine... If you are OK basically being a highly paid drone, then you will do great at Google.

I have been working at Google full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Amazing management, perks, food, fun, coworkers, atmosphere, it was just a wonderful place to work.

    Cons

potential long hours depending on your time management, also requires lots of friendliness and networking which is great unless you're an introvert

I have been working at Google (Less than a year)

    Pros

Google has amazing people working there, and they are eager to help you learn as much as possible. The other benefits are just icing on the cake.

    Cons

There are not that many women working at Google or in leadership positions there. This negatively affects the team dynamics, for both men and women. Women reading this - apply! Aim high! You can do it!

    Advice to Management

Hire more women, and you will find that team productivity will drastically increase. You also will probably find that the more women you hire, the more women will stay. This will be a positive cycle (although the opposite is also true).

I worked at Google as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Everybody either knows what they're talking about, or knows they don't know what they're talking about: nobody thinks they know what they're talking about but actually doesn't.

Snacks, meals, drinks provided and easily accessible nearly anytime anywhere on campus.

Transportation (with Wi-Fi!) to and from work

Open access to documents and code related to nearly any Google product allows employees to feel a part of the greater company, even while focusing on their individual component

    Flexible work hours

    Cons

As an Engineering Practicum intern, I was required to fill out a timesheet, which was tedious.

Probably could get paid more elsewhere

    Advice to Management

Continue to provide a culture of innovation and creativity. Google is successful because of the commitment given by the engineers; give them everything they need.

    Pros

Great environment, smart people, leadership is open and upfront, launch and iterate is real and helpful

    Cons

Some of the work can be rather mundane, it is an advertising company at the core

    Advice to Management

    Keep the open communication...

I worked at Google as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Awesome people, really engaging projects that can appeal to a broad base of potential backgrounds and interests. Of course, great perks.

    Cons

It can seem very easy to get comfortable here and continue to work on a particular project, although that may not be necessarily a bad thing.

    Advice to Management

Allow people greater flexibility in choosing which team they would be interested to work in perhaps. Otherwise, keep up the great work!
