I have been working at Google full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Teamwork, always someone who can help, competitive, fun environment, free food, intelligent colleagues everywhere

    Cons

not family-friendly now that I have kids - I don't wan to spend time playing ping pong and taking advantage of free fun events. I want to get home with my kids.

    Advice to Management

Your long term employees are now having kids and are struggling to both work at the same pace we kept up years ago and to also be good moms/ parents. It's a truly stressful struggle.

I worked at Google as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Free meal, free drinks, free coffee... It is free pretty much anything in the office. Staying in the office is much more comfortable than my home, thats for sure :))

    Cons

There are many genius at Google. It is little challenging and annoying to deal with genius people sometimes, because they thought they know everything.

    Pros

I loved the weekly all company meetings. Makes you feel very connected to some of what is going on around Google.

    Cons

As an intern, the project I was assigned differed from what I thought I had agreed to before I was hired.

I have been working at Google as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

At YouTube we get free food 3x a day, free gym access, free shows and entertainment opportunities, etc. Our schedule is very flexible and the managers are amazing.

    Cons

The work is not challenging at all for my particular team, and we don't ever get paid time off. I should clarify that I'm on as a contractor, not a full-time employee.

    Advice to Management

Pay your contractors on mandatory holidays.

    Pros

The perks, (obviously). hmmm... thats really the only positive thing I can think of.

    Cons

    - Management - I personally experienced the worst management. My boss didn't know how to be a manager, and would always try and steal my work, and then take credit for it later. Super micromanager. His boss way just as bad, and the director of our department is a joke. A lot of favoritism and politics, and ego filled people who think they are entitled.

    - Constant reorgs, and the fear of wondering if you will lose you job.

    - No growth advancement.

    - Bonus was less then promised in offer letter.

    Advice to Management

Be more down to earth, and loose the attitude.

I have been working at Google as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The culture and people are excellent. People are very passionate, smart, and brilliant. The benefits are unmatched. As an intern, as long as you got your work done, the work-life balance can be anything you want it to be, which makes everything very flexible and great.

    Cons

As an intern, there were few if any cons. The general con of being at a large company and not really getting to know everyone definitely applies, but that's honestly not an unreasonable con.

I worked at Google as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Smart people. The food is great. You get to work on projects of immense scale. The pay is great. There is a lot of glamour that comes with the job. People are impressed when they hear that you work for Google.

    Cons

Google is in a state of denial regarding its bureaucracy. It is a huge company and it should accept that fact to fix inefficiencies. A couple of VPs are obviously more interested in politics than in the greater good. The playful, smart company with "don't be evil" as a motto is a vision that has cleary disappeared. Google is no different than any other big company and they are starting to realize it.
