I worked at Google full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of freedom, perks, food, friendly people, great location (feels like the whole city is Google).

    Cons

Too much freedom without guidance. Too many code owners that can block you without a care. Too much focus on features, and not enough on tech debt and testing. People launch a feature, then switch teams and leave the maintenance to the rest. And they get promoted for doing that.

    Advice to Management

Worker harder to make sure everyone on the team is happy and help change teams when necessary.

Cool project and good environment. Could learn a lot.

    Cons

Google is too big. Anything you do doesn't make a big impact.

I have been working at Google full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great culture, investment in employees, concern for overall well being and and very data driven approach to everything. I am constantly learning and surrounded by very intelligent people who want to help others succeed.

    Cons

Not many cons, filling up minimum words here to meet the requirement. The free food can get old. Can only eat seared Tuna and steak so many times.

    Advice to Management

Advice to the kitchen staff is to keep it fresh with constant rotation of dishes, more bbq chicken, better salad bar options, maybe some better sushi.

I have been working at Google full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Perks, flexible schedule, interesting projects

    Cons

Working on projects at the scale Google does is challenging, and working with the existing infrastructure can be difficult.

I have been working at Google as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

I have had the opportunity to work with some really talented people on some really great projects while at Google. People are very generous with their time and are always willing to help you succeed, even if you are a contractor. I also get to enjoy a lot of the perks such as the food, shuttles etc.

    Cons

The only real downside for me is that you can only work as a temp for two years. My current role as a Business Analyst should be a full-time role in which I was hoping to be converted. There aren't any opportunities for conversion in my department. I wish Google had a way for teams to convert worthy candidates instead of having to start all over again with a new temp every two years.

    Advice to Management

You have made Google an awesome place to work, keep up the good work. I think it would be beneficial to have some process for at least considering the conversion of worthy TVC candidates.

    Pros

If a start up job is not for you, but you still want to bust at work and be supported through it and rewarded for it, this is it. Also, very few mediocre people.

    Cons

It's a corp job, not a start up.
