I worked at Google as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Relaxed culture, capable and helpful full-time engineers, and you will feel pampered. The pay is good, and the people are friendly.

    Cons

It's for an older crowd. You will feel lazy, and the work is not motivating. The relaxed culture is bittersweet. If you're young and ready to work hard, this place is probably not for you. The company hires some of the best engineers in the world to work on small projects that will likely be scrapped.

    Advice to Management

There might be some lessons to learn from "startup culture." In a startup, ad projects are scrapped quickly, and the work is more meaningful. I think that Google is only attracting a certain type of talent -- the kind of talent that wants to be told what to do -- with its culture.

    Pros

Cool project and good environment. Could learn a lot.

    Cons

Google is too big. Anything you do doesn't make a big impact.

    Pros

Great people, never met an annoying person. The social values of the company are great. Relaxed environment is a big plus.

    Cons

Stockholm syndrome :/ It is easy to feel intimidated. Google is a big company with a lot of insider technologies; don't expect to know it all from day one.

    Pros

Definitely made you feel like you were part of the team. Really amazing culture, where you had freedom over different projects to work on.

    Cons

Work hours and commute can be very long if you work out of Mountain View.

    Advice to Management

    None

I worked at Google (Less than a year)

    Pros

Opportunities to work with brilliant minds. Team full of impeccable role models. Surrounded by ego-less, skilled professionals who also know how to have fun! All the famous perks.

    Cons

Nothing that I think would be standard across many people's experiences. I wasn't a fan of MTV and found the entire Bay Area dreadful. Being one of the few interns in my building and the only intern on my team, I had some trouble finding other interns to bond with.

I worked at Google as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

They treat their employees very well, and the work culture is very laid back and free, while stressing excellence and efficiency.

    Cons

Sometimes I felt a bit lost due to the sheer scale of the company and the dynamic of my particular team (we were somewhat less social than other teams).

    Advice to Management

Take care of your interns! Keep up to date with them beyond just their work, and encourage them (even more!) to seek out other interns, older mentors, and other social and professional growth opportunities.
