I have been working at Google full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to work. If you have a good manager (and most of the SRE managers in Zurich ARE good), you'll always find a way to remain engaged ad grow.

    Cons

it's a big company requires process- and people-oriented skills, more than just results-oriented enthusiasm to succeed. As an SRE, you use mostly home grown tools and technologies: it's easy to loose touch with the rest of the world. Working at Google is a tradeoff between tactical skills and strategic experience.

    Advice to Management

Google is very US-centric, which makes it less innovative than it could be and less able to penetrate various sectors internationally . Listen and empower your international staff to make more product suggestions and decisions, in particular non-engineers in local offices who are more in touch with their local environments.

I worked at Google as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

You work along with the best minds in the world.

    Cons

side effect of the pros is that, in order to grow inside company, You have to compete in the elitist pool of best engineers in the world :)

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up

    Pros

    * Great (friendly, smart and experienced) co-workers.
    * Big scale and thus interesting challenges.
    * Perks and benefits.
    * Somewhat bigger transparency in its internal politics. You can publicly criticize decision made even at high level.
    * Moving between teams is easy including into offices in other countries and cities.

    Cons

    * It is a corporation, so while it’s better than many, don’t expect rainbows without some rain.
    * If you don’t watch out, you can get sucked in and sacrifice work/life balance. You typically won’t be asked to do that though.

    Positive Outlook

    Pros

    It's Google:
      - The teams I worked with were pretty strong
      - The infrastructure is interesting to work with
      - The benefits are great (in Zurich)

    Cons

    It's Google:
      - The company is big, so there is bureaucracy
      - Things may move slowly
      - May be difficult to find an interesting project to work on after a while especially in satellite offices

    Advice to Management

Maybe it I could find an interesting project, I would've stayed - and I heard the same sentiment from other people too.
