I worked at Gordon College (Massachusetts) full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Vacation is excellent. 20 days to start, 10 sick days, week off between Christmas and New Years, 2 personal days, and something like 13 paid holidays. Insane amount of vacation. As in, too much time off to know what to do with. There are also some real gems of people working there, but each seems to be slowly departing.

    Cons

Gordon hasn't yet learned that you don't get top talent for bottom dollar. Salaries are horrendous, and raises are unheard of, even for performing well. Employees join for the mission of the college, and either stay and become complacent in their work because the college has no way to motivate employees, or they leave because their value isn't recognized. Leadership is tone deaf to the changing student demographics and...

    Advice to Management

Develop legitimate ways to measure staff performance. Reward your strong talent and remove your weak. Don't be surprised if you have below average people when you offer below average salaries. Before making decisions to cut staff for reasons related to college performance, perhaps consider changes to the leadership team that got the college into the predicament. Listen to your alumni base - they're important to your financial...

I have been working at Gordon College (Massachusetts) full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Rewarding work and company mission, supportive co-workers really care about each other, great perks such as free classes and gym membership and your kids can go there, no charge on tuition.

    Cons

Pay is no where near competitive and often advancement opportunities are filled from outside instead of promotions from within. I have been working here for over 10 years and still make within 3k of my original starting salary despite consistently high performance reviews.

    Advice to Management

Pay needs to be more competitive. Need to promote from within more often.
