    I worked at Gordon Food Service full-time

    Pros

    Great team culture
    Generous 401k and profit sharing programs
    Affordable benefits
    Great coworkers
    Great starting pay, especially for High School/GED grads

    Cons

    Very physical work-if you like to work out could be a pro!
    Not much upward mobility
    Long shifts (especially when equipment goes down)
    Starts out night shift
    Sales volume doesn't always meet what you are told to expect
    Some management seems not to have the right temperament-hiring happens from within, a lot of seniority based positions
    Lots of turnover, but usually from the under-6-month employees, so it doesn't result in moving up the food chain

    Advice to Management

    Great company, but tough schedule and constantly understaffed. Some managers more approachable and comfortable, others less so. Find a way to keep the turnover down!

    Pros

    Profit sharing. TOP NOTCH healthcare especially the lack of pre existing condition clause before Obamacare, which may become important again soon given political environment in US.

    Cons

    Pay is just ok compared to Sysco/US/CBI

    Advice to Management

    Pay Raise

    I have been working at Gordon Food Service full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    * Incentive and nice benefits.
    * Big Christmas party.
    * The profit sharing is A1.
    * 10% off at stores.

    Cons

    *This company has a huge inflated ego.
    *Very high expectations for the pay, It is good but it is lower than some of their competitors.
    *Management holds favorites...
    * A lot of employees feel like they are out of the mix and are burnt out because they bust there a** with very little acknowledgment.
    *You do not get fed that much compared to other jobs and companies in the same field. You would think that being a food service you would get fed often, however this is not the case at all.
    *A lot of backstabbing and kissing a** in the workplace. People will do absolutely anything to get above one another.

    Advice to Management

    Start taking better care of your employees and they'll make your job a lot easier. Along with that just because there is a cool Christmas party once a year does not mean that your employees feel appreciated the other 364 days of the year. Additionally, stop rewarding the people who kiss a** and start rewarding the hard workers that bust their a** when you aren't watching.

    Pros

    The leadership is very down-to-earth and most everyone is very helpful and welcoming.

    Cons

    Not necessarily a con, but be prepared to be patient if you want to advance up the ladder. Most people stay in their roles for quite a long time and the organization structure is fairly flat.

    Pros

    Great people for the most part. No process is perfect but they seem to be aiming at great character team members.

    Cons

    Aging equipment, lack of the correct equipment, and attrition causes way to much stress in an already stressful job. Some of these things on the company and completely avoidable.

    Advice to Management

    Not every instance should be considered collateral damage. There is a lot of angry people working for GFS because they indeed care too much. Sometime that “war room” mentality could lead to tunnel vision and you tend not to listen as much as before. If every level of the process is missing just one minor detail, it becomes a huge one and affects the customer in the end.
