I worked at Gordon Food Service full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Can earn excellent wages if you give them your soul

    Cons

Can earn double the compensation with less workload at larger competitors, even though many GFS sales leaders will tell you Sysco is evil. Health insurance was significantly reduced over the years. Company car program virtually eliminated for a lousy vehicle reimbursement program. Project Heritage is an internal cost cutting measure that is eating the heart and soul out of the company. Lots of 15-25 year veteran employees jumping ship. Plenty of incompetent sales managers throughout the network now as Project Heritage can save the company money by promoting sales order takers because they are cheaper than accomplished sales consultants. They are reducing their sales force trying to automate the selling process. Good luck!

    Advice to Management

The Gordon's need to take control of the company back, but it will be a long slow road if they want to return it to the days when Paul Gordon ran the company. I don't believe the family cares anymore. They have made their money.

    Pros

Willing to teach you anything about running your store, the customers are great as long as you are willing to listen and work with them. Salary

    Cons

    Hours, 50 to 70 a week

    Advice to Management

You keep changing up the concept of whom you actually serve. There is way too much micro managing in the districts. Go back to the family’s core values of business. Customer first.
