I worked at Gordon Trucking full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good miles, good people, good equipment. There was a strong culture of safety and service among both the drivers and management

    Cons

After the heartland buyout the culture that made gordon distinct started to fall apart. The stress management felt about possible layoffs was very visable

    Pros

Been a great company to work for - caring owners and upper management. Job security, benefits, salary, workload have always been strong. Many employees who have made a lifelong commitment to this company, proves a very caring place.

    Cons

The company was purchased a couple years ago, since then the overall feeling is insecurity. Most of the long term staff has now left the company; along with the family. With them leaving so has most of the security and good feelings. the overall morale is down.

I have been working at Gordon Trucking full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good equipment, 2015 model trucks lastest models are 2013s, plenty of runs, drop and hook freight. APUs, inverters and newer Qualcomms in every truck. Home time is great. They care about your family and will adjust your runs to fit your home life. Pay is great based on how well you run, but great for me.

    Cons

Night and weekend dispatch could be better. It's hard to contact them either over the phone or over the Qualcomm. When you do reach someone it's like you are disturbing their sleep.

    Advice to Management

Train the night and weekend dispatch to do what the weekday dispatch does.

Treat your drivers better than your dispatchers.

I have been working at Gordon Trucking full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Trucks have APUs. Low level workers are very nice. Trailers are good condition.

    Cons

Every procedure is as over complicated as possible. Nearly every load has some sort of major problem due to inept management. Extremely overbearing about following company rules. Pay is below average due to constant down time. Terminal managers are unqualified compared to nearly all operations personnel. Load planners are unable to communicate details properly. Very disorganized management above lowest levels.

    Advice to Management

Rules should not exist to simply be exist. The rules should have a function. Mid level and high level personnel need some sort of performance standards besides quotas. Constant mid and high level mistakes need to be dealt with.

    Pros

APU and decent trucks. Some of terminals are decent. once hired they give you a beanie for you head lol

    Cons

Lies from recruiting to get you on the company. Always waiting on loads sometimes three days before you get a load for following day. (Excuses are no freight) when your in a high freight area.

    Advice to Management

Advise them to either stop hiring so many drivers when there is no freight or start pay by hours when not on a load.

    Pros

Home time on time , recruiters are awesome, but they are selling lies. Management quick to make excuses and cover up poor planning and dispatchers

    Cons

Every other possible element to the truck driving industry to much down time, poor planning, drivers thrown under bus every single time when something goes wrong.

    Advice to Management

I worked at Gordon Trucking full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There were some very good dispatchers. These were people who knew the industry, and who were willing to help the drivers. And those who lacked experience were willing to learn from those who had it. I'd go back in a second if I were still working with them.

    Cons

There were also some extremely incompetent dispatchers. They would put pressure on you to move, even when they knew you didn't have the hours to run, and then park you if you didn't run they way they wanted you to. Maintenance was a joke.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of dispatchers who haven't been drivers or who refuse to learn. (Ask your drivers who they are: they know.) I'd can nearly all the planners who screw with drivers because they can. Do SOMETHING about making sure the trucks get repaired in a timely manner.
