I have been working at Gotham Beauty full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Extremely nice, super talented and hard working group. Everyone works hard but also knows how to have a good laugh. Great dynamic and partnership across departments. Produces beautiful, integrated campaigns for iconic brand. A very personal and approachable President that is genuinely involved and cares about the staff.

    Cons

Runs lean and mean so long hours at times. But this is advertising - during crunch times days are always long. When not a crunch time, employees are typically gone by 6/6:30.

    Advice to Management

Investing in industry training programs (on all topics) for team members - both Account and Creative.

I worked at Gotham Beauty full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Some of the people you work with become good friends
    - Every Thursday there was wine/beer/snacks

Literally the only 2 good things about this hot mess, which is why I'm giving it 2 stars below.

    Cons

I can't believe this place has a 3 star rating. That's way too high. Where to even begin...

    - Looooooong hours. Super late nights, all the time. Frequent weekends. All to do something that has a 50/50 chance of completely changing the next day or just being dropped.
    - Speaking of those late nights and weekend work, they'll only let you know about it maybe a day in advance. Then you're expected to drop your life and bend to their will.
    - There's also virtually no compensation for working these extra days - for every 5 you might get 1 back.
    - If the client likes what you've done, the Creative Directors take credit. If the client doesn't like what you've done, you get thrown under the bus.
    - You only get proper pay/raises/promotions/good projects if the higher ups like you. Doesn't matter if you're just as talented or work hard, it's a popularity contest.
    - Instead of promoting within, they will hire people with less experience than you to work above you and get paid more than you. So much for company loyalty!
    - Again, when they do promote within, it's dependent on whether or not they like you personally. If they don't, be prepared to wait years for that promotion, if it ever comes.
    - The work gets stale, fast. It might seem cool at first but everything is just recycled. Very rare to get something totally original in print or TVC.
    - Poor management in general, for account and creative.
    - Poor work distribution - if you're a Junior, you'll work on the same projects as a Senior would, but you get paid half as much. You will also often get more work than they get, so you'll put in twice as many hours and

    Advice to Management

They're too far gone to ever change or fix anything, just don't even bother applying here unless you are homeless/otherwise in desperate need of an income. And then, start looking for a new job immediately so you can jump ship. THE GRASS IS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE.

    Pros

Been at Gotham for a little over a year. Yeah, it's a lot of hard work, but what agency isn't hard work? The leadership is awesome. Chairman is very approachable and down to earth as is the agency President. Creative directors are demanding but fun to work with

    Cons

Long hours but you produce a lot of great work. Client is demanding but respectful.

    Advice to Management

    Keep that drink trolley going

    Pros

    Great brand names for resume

    Cons

Terrible hours, very corrupted environment, favoritism, no diversity, terrible management, lack of leadership and poor HR

    Advice to Management

Open your eyes and ears, don't play favorites and pay attention to your employees

    Pros

The people are FANTASTIC. brands good resume builders.

    Cons

The most backwards environment you will ever experience. As a junior account person, there is zero growth and autonomy. You will print papers for client meetings, and not finesse real management skills because they never say no to the client.

    Advice to Management

Manage the client appropriately; or absorb into McCann so they can.

I worked at Gotham Beauty full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Steady job, as long as you don't seriously mess something up. Also if you show some promise, management will let you run photo shoots as you see fit.

    Cons

You only work on a single client. So if the client says jump, you say how high. That means last minute weekend work, unreasonable deadlines and you can never say "no".

    Advice to Management

Learn to say no to client, but honestly that will never happen.
