    Pros

    Cons

Current government is making the job tougher and morale is faltering.

    Pros

None to speak of. The province sees their employees as liabilities, not assets.

    Advice to Management

Value the employees you have before they exit. The current state is not sustainable.

I have been working at Government of Alberta full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Pension and benefits. Positive internal culture.

    Cons

Treatment by legislators. Public sentiment is dehumanizing.

    Advice to Management

Develop capacity to produce data derivatives in business areas. Centralized IT services should focus only on storage and provisioning of raw data.

I have been working at Government of Alberta full-time

    Pros

Relatively high salary range. Decent benefits.

    Cons

Depending on how big the unit is where you work, and who the supervisor is, the GoA experience can range anywhere from routinely nice, to nightmarish hell incarnate. Working hours also vary widely depending on the unit. Some senior managers are completely incompetent and bullies. Some middle managers are just incompetent and self-interested. There is rampant favouritism and biased promotions. Positions and... duties can also be changed literally overnight at a senior manager's whim. Generally the smaller and more independent the unit is, the worse it is for the staff and the more arbitrary things will be. Expect pay freezes and and hiring freezes for the foreseeable future. And forever increasing workloads. One common theme is the bully staff and managers staying on or even getting promoted, while everyone else competent and respectful leaves sooner than later. Some positions have zero work life balance because of unrealistic expectations and bullying.
