    - Straightforward career path that can be achieved with clear-ish requirements for each step - Very good pension - Excellent work/life balance -Excellent entry level salary

    - Great for gaining experience and knowledge of the public sector - Pay is decent

    Cons

    - HR process is cumbersome - Unclear path for career progression - Work ethic amongst certain employees could be higher - When working in such a huge organization, it is often hard to see how your work is actually contributing towards anything tangible - Immense hierarchy within the organization - Hiring / Promotion does not seem to be commensurate upon an individual's performance at work; instead, it is based on how well an individual can "hack" the HR process

    Pros

    You can do meaningful work Steady job, unionized Good benefits regarding leave, dental, etc. Lots of opportunities to move around within government from one job to another in another department

    Cons

    You can get trapped in a job You might not get paid as pay system is full of mistakes and government has allowed it to continue for years —I have been owed $7,000 for 5 months and am still waiting. Morale is low
