I have been working at Government of Canada

    Pros

A great challenge, lots of opportunity to shine, huge open door for innovation, usually plenty of change and as a result plenty of money to get things done (despite what people think about governments cutting back)

    Cons

Indentured servitude, expectation of 24/7 availability, difficulty balancing work and home life, a singular devotion to the politician (as opposed to a devotion to the citizen, which is the way government is supposed to work)

    Advice to Management

Lighten up and quite taking what you do so seriously (most senior managers are so full of themselves, they've had humanity beaten from their souls), lead more than manage, seek out innovation, enable your people, celebrate success more.
