I have been working at Government of Canada full-time

    Pros

This is a great place to work. Your job is stable, great pension, great medical /dental insurance but you have to promote yourself by entering into competition for higher posts.

    Cons

You have to do exams and interviews to get promoted and no guarantees. You may have to train yourself to further your carrier because there is no guarantee for promotion for you, Sorry.

    Advice to Management

Create promotional opportunities. Create new positions and assistant /or associate position in middle level management.

I worked at Government of Canada full-time

    Pros

The good thing about working with the federal government is that once you're in, you can stay there forever - if you can tolerate it. People are rarely fired for incompetency.

    Cons

The federal government does not promote creative thought, they reward individuals who stick to the status quo and do not seek to look for innovative ways to conduct their jobs.

    Advice to Management

Do not be afraid of thinking outside the box, look to reward and retain people that are efficiently conducting their jobs as well as those going above and beyond their job description.

    Cons

limited to the amount of hours worked within a week

    Advice to Management

Let those people who want to get the work done go and do it

    Pros

The expectations and performance reviews were clear and precise, which helped with career building and guidelines. I've worked with many teams and it was a great sense of community every time.

    Cons

Working full-time for the government is challenging, the getting in process is extremely difficult as there isn't always an opening or the selection process is a little bias and hard to manage.

    Advice to Management

It'd be great if the application be easier for Canadian citizens. Sometimes it can be very challenging and difficult to follow, compared to any other companies else where.

    Pros

    Good job security

    Cons

Hard work does not guarantee promotion.
Progress beyond entry level pay depends on your success in various tests and interviews, where the criteria for success can be unclear.

    Advice to Management

None - you're already on the gravy train.
