    Pros

great culture, benefits, sales training, a lot of freedom.

    Cons

    Pros

Very well-known company. They stick to protocols, guidelines and ethics. You can really take a lot of control of your career, but be willing and ready to relocate.

    Cons

Work life balance. Chasing the number can greatly overshadow career advancement. Training all the time. Advancement outside of HQ (Chicago) is limited.

Good company, but cannot recommend the sales function

    Pros

Like any very large company, the healthcare and retirement benefits.

    Cons

I spent well more than a decade as an Account Manager with Grainger, and endured the decline of the culture within the sales organization for longer than I should have. Fast turnover has been embraced and become the norm in most of the markets. Your responsibilities will be overwhelming, and many proclaim, "What have I gotten myself into?" There is an endless menu of data that management is encouraged to choose from to keep the pressure on. Below is a partial list of those data points, none of which you are compensated on. You are only paid bonuses as a percent to overall sales goal. Keepstock run rate- National run rate- Local run rate- Ecommerce sales- Safety sales- Metal working run rate- # of Keepstock opp's created- # of metal working opp's created- # of Keepstock opp's closed- # of metal working opp's closed- At the annual trade show? How many Opp's have you created today, yesterday, after the completion of the event? # of opp's and dollar amount of opp's in the various opp stages- Pipeline velocity- Age of opp's- New contacts added- Frequency of customer touches- Account plans for each account, with plans for each sub category- Monthly revenue forecast- Your weekly calendar of "events" and are they in person, or virtual- In short, the Account Manager role will grind you to the stump.

    Great Company to Sell For!

Jan 25, 2022 - Healthcare Account Manager in Chicago, IL

    Pros

Lot's of support from internal teams. Supply chain is world class, order fulfillment is extremely accurate, customer service is spot on and very supportive to rectify customer issues. Leadership invests in a lot of resources/trainings for sales. Annual trade show allows for partnerships with vendors to drive value for the customer, and sharpen sales skills/techniques through workshops and seminars/talks. Great company culture and pride. Highly inclusive atmosphere, truly somewhere you can be yourself! Monthly stipend towards vehicle plus mileage. Good discounts on all Grainger products!

    Cons

Very broad set of products and services can be difficult to learn. Reducing customer coverage in areas by consolidating territories, and shifting some territories to junior reps (field account representatives). Compensation could be more competitive and the profit sharing isn't what it used to be anymore. Sales organization can be highly political when it comes to promotions/transfers. Commissions were cut for all sales staff in H2 2020, due to sudden loss in revenue across majority of the business. Revenue from healthcare vertical broke records, however corresponding sales team members were not compensated as such. Field sales team members were still expected to visit customers in person when allowed, and were considered "front line essential employees." Non-commissionable employees were not financially impacted by COVID, despite not having to work in person.
