    Pros

Had new and up dated training for teachers.

    Cons

Spend a high percentage on administration than other districts They gave teacher more students than other districts. Then when discipline challenges arise in the classroom the teacher is blamed.

    Advice to Management

Realize that teachers are your greatest resource and the number of students they teacher at one time dose affect their performance.

    Advice to Management

Move to Cuba and seek refugee status you overpaid, liars. You milk the public. Have you no shame. I cant even.

I worked at Grand Rapids Public Schools part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Can bid on different jobs. Some modern, updated buildings with a lot of windows and natural light. Beautiful libraries in some buildings. Classrooms are sufficiently large.

    Cons

Need to care more about the staffs who are the heartbeat of of your schools and make them successful. Give more support and mentoring as an administration. Be approachable from the lowest to the highest office. More care and support for subs in building also. Listen to needs and concerns of staff. Quit trying to be so politically correct and listen to the wrong voices. The staff have to deal with the kids every day as well as often uninvolved parents who only come around to hollar about "unfairly their kids are being treated" when they misbehave and are disruptive every day in class. Teachers and principals need a lot more help and support with discipline. Get taken advantage of because of bleeding-heart progessives who think you are "targeting' certain groups" No, but you do have to target those who are being so disruptive and destructive you can't teach and some kids tear up the facilities and equipment, too. If they fall into a certain category, well, that's how it is. Maybe those parents in those groups need to take a hard look at how they are training their children ( or not) at home!!

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to needs and concerns of all the staffs; they are largely what make you or break you as a district!! Care more for them in a positive way. And, Don't judge situations based on race, or person's relationship to you. Just look at the behavioral choice, no matter the aforementioned. I just say, love your staffs and show them. Be on-hands with them more often; in their buildings, not to judge, but to see what you can do to encourage them and empower them.

I worked at Grand Rapids Public Schools full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Going home at 5:00pm. There are some good people working there. Having the opportunity to work with the students was always a plus.

    Cons

Serious lack of leadership and direction. Unless you are one of the "elite" select few you get treated like dirt. No vision or how to implement it if they did have a vision. Extreme waste of taxpayer dollars. Only place I ever worked where I can honestly say they thought they were above the law and could do whatever they wanted. Witnessed firsthand misallocation of funds with absolutely no regard for the rules.

    Advice to Management

Clean house and get rid of all the executive management and bring in a team of ethical leaders that aren't in it for themselves. The state should complete a comprehensive audit and really dig into how and where funding is being spent.
