I have been working at Grand Valley State University part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice people, positive work environment competitive salary. I have worked here for 3 years and have enjoyed coming to work.

    Cons

could have more autonomy, feels like I am being micromanaged at times. Sometimes it feels like management doesn't listen or just tells you what you want to hear instead of trusting their people.

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid to make tough decisions to hold people accountable. Getting rid of bad employees is a good move, even if it makes some upset.

Great health, life, vision, dental benefits, competitive wages, lots of perks for employees, lots of activities on campus such as concerts, lectures, great fitness center free to employees. Lots of opportunities to eat really good food. The work itself is great, exposure to a diverse population, mind-opening and collegial.

    Advice to Management

Best university president ever! Keep up the great work!

I worked at Grand Valley State University (More than a year)

    Pros

Learned a lot! Was tested nearly everyday through interactions and utilized problem solving skills every time I clocked in. Met some amazing people!

    Cons

I felt like I worked in wrecked workplace, nothing felt organized or thought out. Coworkers often didn't communicate leaving holes in our service. Extra work was often given to my particular office which made my job more stressful than it already was.

    Advice to Management

Really encourage workplace communication of issues or ongoing situations that haven't been resolved. Ensure that employees realize they are valued and their time is worth something, so many days and night I felt as though I wasn't appreciated for doing my job exceptionally well. Lastly, I hope new management always follows through with any changes they want to enact and stay consistent.
