I worked at Granite Telecommunications for less than a year

    Pros

Great people, awesome teammates. Consider this place if you are looking for experience in proposals and fresh out of college. Consider this place if you do not mind working in a office from 8am to 5pm, Monday-Friday with no option to work remote.

    Cons

Clock in and clock out from inside the office, cannot do it from home. No wifi in office. No option to work remote or from home. Strict dress code. Strict 8am in office rule. Must pay to wear jeans on Friday. No perks. No metro pass. Does not have federal contractor culture. Websites are blocked, no sports, no social media, no forums. No company paid happy hours. Terrible processes. Does not observe all 10 federal... holidays. Do not consider if you are an experienced proposal professional that appreciates working remote.

    Advice to Management

Fight for flexibility. Proposal professionals do not need to be in an office from 8am to 5pm like factory or retail workers. Let people come and go as long as work is completed.

Only wish I started this job sooner.

    Advice to Management

I worked at Granite Telecommunications full-time for less than a year

    Pros

There are a lot of great people working at Granite. They have an on site gym as well as give back to the community. The "extra curricular" environment is great.

    Cons

The job is terrible and Granite would rather throw people at a problem rather than clean up outdated processes. Granite's approach to operations puts band aids over band aids, and there is a lot of focus on hiding how messy things are from the executives. This office is stuck in the movie office space and senior non-management employees ruin good days with their disheartened cynicism.

    Advice to Management

Your middle managers are lying to you, and the workload of your lower level employees is too much to handle with how little support other ops groups actually provide. You want your customers to have dedicated reps, but those reps need help and rather than helping them, you continually add to their work and stress. Your turnover rate isn't your employees being weak, it's them valuing their well-being and skills over... jobs that don't pay enough in a company stuck in 2004. Additionally, there is far too much blame and clique high school drama in your departments which sucks the life out of great employees. Get a real HR group, start developing better software systems, and hire someone to help you refine and automate processes on a human level. It wouldn't hurt to build a larger- more current office building with more parking. I get that these are big asks, but Granite's heart is in the right place, and I think there is potential to make meaningful change.

I worked at Granite Telecommunications full-time

    Pros

Great training, a lot of great people to work with

    Cons

Literally everything. No room for growth, in sales your base NEVER increases they just up your quota. Just an overall miserable experience for me. During state of emergency snow storms everyone is expected to be in the office still. Does not matter if it’s a “bomb cyclone” outside you still have to make cold calls.

    Advice to Management

Open your mind to this day and age.

I have been working at Granite Telecommunications full-time

    Pros

Good base salary if you're in a southern office, great people, relaxed work environment. No one is super aggressive to the point that you start to resent the pressure or anything

    Cons

You will however resent the inability of management to understand that the industry and leads you're provided as a new employee are different from their glory days. Management plays favorites subconsciously so I don't really fault them but it definitely helps to be on the inner cirlce, one manager doesn't even have the experience to be a manager but hey, good for him.

    Advice to Management

Redesign expectations to fit the changing market place. It's not a POTS world anymore. You can just close a deal in a month and move on to the next task
