I have been working at Granite Telecommunications full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Coworkers are great, everyone there is there to help. The training is pretty good, you learn vital programs like SQL and some powerpivot material. Its a good first professional experience. Adjusting from college to the full time work life can be tough but working at Granite can be less stressful transition.

    Cons

The company culture is very much outdated. You are requried to come into work from 8-5 (flexible schedules just recently changed and its only for people who have been there for 3 years). Work from home just became available but only twice a month. The required attire just shifted from shirt and tie to business casual. The company is sales focuses, so being in finance can feel like less important to organization. The... pay is pretty low compared to the industry standard. Granite has a pretty high turnover rate, so it takes a decent amount of time to have a salary to be proud of. The benefits are pretty bad. Only 7 recognized holidays the whole year, sick days are included in your PTO, and have to come in on snow days.

I worked at Granite Telecommunications full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Decent PTO and 401k match. Collegial environment of young ppl, nice gym and company sports leagues.

    Cons

Big brother, 8-5 hours for 99%, mandatory 12-1 lunch. Management too concerned with the symbolism of hard work over results. Granite just announced employees can work from home 2 days a month to take advantage of a corporate tax break but no monday or friday so hopefully your kid just gets sick mid week. It really comes down to an obvious lack of trust from management. This lack of trust takes a toll which is not... free. Best contributors want to be judged by results of their craft, not by some phony measure of what is considered hard work.

    Advice to Management

Deploy early detection of frauds and route them to positions that cost Granite the least, out the front door. Pay and promote your best, well-rounded employees. Reward unique ideas making company multiple millions of dollars a year. At least a sign of real appreciation could go a long way. Thanks for the opportunity, it’s unfortunate I was compelled to test free agency. It proved fruitful so for that I’m... grateful as well.

I worked at Granite Telecommunications full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are no positives to working here. Take a job with Granite if you have to have something, then move on, fast.

    Cons

Granite is a company straight out of the 1950s with an 80-page rule book. Work hours are set at 8 - 5, lunch is 12 - 1, and you have to clock in. No work from home. The complex dress code is covered in detail in the handbook and includes ties for men on certain days, specific shirts, pants, and shoes, jeans are ok on Friday but they must be "tidy jeans!" You can dress down Fridays only if you contribute cash to... a charity. You can't use your phone at your desk. It goes on and on and on ..... The handbook details disciplinary actions for violating every detail of your behavior, including first, second, and third offenses. If you've got to have a job, work here while you look for a company that is operating in the 21st century and run -- don't walk -- away from Granite.

I have been working at Granite Telecommunications full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good experience to put on a resume to elevate you elsewhere. Red line stop in parking lot. Awesome coworkers. Quarterly bonuses and sales competitions to get extra days off. Everyone is on the same page that this place is a stepping stone.

    Cons

Extreme micromanagement. You have to be there from 8-5 Monday-Friday and can not work from home. If you have errands to do during the week, plan on taking a half or full day off. Work life balance is nonexistent and you will burn through your PTO. VERY few people are confident in their jobs. Everyone seems to be crossing their fingers getting by. This is due to the company not providing you with any *useful*... training and upper management constantly making process changes to every little thing you do. You will get atleast 1 process change email per day. On top of this, their focus is to pick you apart for errors. When you start, you’re thrown into the fire and have to ask your coworkers every single little thing. Also, your supervisors will be completely useless until you know what you’re doing. It’s frustrating to watch. They won’t even do so much as set you up with your computer. One of your teammates will be assigned to you, and they will have to set you up and train you from the ground up whilst not getting paid a dime more and having to be on top of their own work. Even if you finish your work or have NO work, you are not leaving Granite. You are glued to your desk from 8-5. If you have nothing to do, you are still expected to sit there until 5 PM pretending to be busy and utterly wasting your own time. To anyone looking to apply here- This is an easy place to get some experience on your resume. Build up your skills and get out.

I have been working at Granite Telecommunications for more than a year

    Pros

They have lights that turn on.

    Cons

Phones that don't work. Computers that can't connect. Employees who drink to excess. Juvenile time reporting. Director that is aloof, and mangers that sound like a 14-year old from Valley-Girl High Mean girls school. Employees who work with other companies -while- working at their job for this company, and openly take their calls for other jobs during work. Employees who don't show up for 2-3 days and "work" from... home. Employees who don't know modern software. High School culture, you constantly feel like you are working a factory blue-collar job with a lunch clock in. Unsure why companies want to do business with them.

    Pros

Granite is the best employer I have worked for. There are endless opportunities for growth and the CEO and COO know everyone. Granite also provides great outside opportunities for community service, intramurals and their gym is amazing! I look forward to coming to work.

    Cons

The only downside is that you cannot work from home.

    Advice to Management

Continue to communicate with employees and adhere to their needs. Granite is always changing and they always ask for the employees for input which is great!
