I have been working at Grant Thornton full-time for more than 4 years

      Pros

Global Firm - lots of opportunities for secondment, department transfer, work in other regions. LA office has great people - a lot of them have left since the end of last year

      Cons

The firm claims to be people first but keeps overhiring and firing. If you are an intern about to start or a new associate, be prepared for half of your class to be fired after 1-2 years. Round tables are cut throat and the smallest mistake, or if scheduling don't assign you enough could be the reason you get fired. All of the partners in the LA office vocally do not agree with the strategy of the firm, in particular...

      Advice to Management

Cut back on marketing spending and invest in your people and software. Focus on the future not the bottom line - extend vision of the firm beyond the next three months.

I have been working at Grant Thornton full-time for more than a year

      Pros

The culture was great, but recent movements in the Company has detracted from the “people first” culture. Pay is normally better than competitors and we have solid flexibility about working from home.

      Cons

A lot of changes, for the long term, but the partners aren’t explaining it well to employees which is creating a disconnect between partnership and employee. This use to not be an issue which is sad, but it may be coming from national.

      Advice to Management

From a current employee, partners need to reestablish trust by promoting Unlimited time off, describe the changes the firm is undergoing to benefit the people in the long term, and due to this difficulty a larger pay increase is needed to calm peoples’ nerves.

I have been working at Grant Thornton full-time

        Pros

The company has a good culture in place. Perhaps the best in industry. The company has a great flexible time off policy that make sit easy to take time off when necessary,

        Cons

The Cons would be the hours worked, many clients are private jobs and are run a little disorganized.

        Advice to Management

My advice to management would be to tone down on the intensity of private clients. Many times we lose business with private jobs due to our overkill audit procedures

I worked at Grant Thornton full-time for more than 4 years

        Pros

It’s a job. The administrative support staff is friendly. There are a handful of cool people.

        Cons

GT fills people with this notion that they are different. But all it amounts to is a large amount of corporate buzz words. Ever since the current APL took over the culture has tanked. In my time at GT several girls had to leave the firm because they broke up with a former colleague and the current Sr. Mgrs and Partners took sides when they should have stayed out of it. I once overheard a Partner (and someone who was...

I have been working at Grant Thornton full-time for more than a year

        Pros

As a lower-level member of the audit team, you will get exposure to not just seniors and managers, but senior managers and partners, from an early stage. This allows proactive employees to form relationships and develop consistency and experience in a certain industry quickly. Welcoming, diverse work environment and culture - office improvements over the past few years have made the workplace feel much less stuffy and...

        Cons

Performance/rating system has had constant changes - even with the new scale, high performers are not necessarily given the proper recognition and compensation they deserve versus employees performing at an average level. The rating system itself is also clunky and overly complicated. Scheduling can be hit or miss. Some seniors are booked consistently by managers and partners on recurring jobs, but others without many...

        Advice to Management

Continue to improve upon ways of rewarding those employees who are high-performers, so that their value feels recognized. Offer more opportunities for associate and senior-level employees to rotate through a few industries early on, so they can find their niche. Stress the importance of quality feedback.

        Pros

Unlimited PTO, Company Culture, Flexibility out of busy season, pay is fair in the auditing market, good health/life insurance, pension plan. Florida office management is the best!

        Cons

401k match is low, National Partners/ Executives send out poorly timed emails, working for a national firm you have to deal with the success and failures of other offices around the country, national holidays are seldom.

        Advice to Management

Increase the 401k to a full match, and allow floating holidays for holidays that arise during busy season, don't send emails talking about planning audits during February!
