I have been working at Grant Thornton International full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Easy access to senior management, talented coworkers, industry leaders in some areas, fairly good work/life balance

    Cons

Bonuses are not great, salaries are lower than the big four

I have been working at Grant Thornton International full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work/life balance is pretty good. All staff is generally friendly. Great holiday party.

    Cons

Federal practice tries to figure things out as they go vs. putting together a discernible strategy. Low-end consulting - 99.9% of work is staff aug. "Not invented here" mentality is pervasive. Collaboration feels like an assembly line process - people focus on their respective "part," but don't focus on the overall "machine" being built. Continual "restructuring" of practice leaves feeling of utter confusion, in everything. Career management practices are a joke, and change each year.

standardized practices not fully developed, parking isn't paid for (at home office or client site), annual performance review is not as comprehensive as other firms

    Advice to Management

    pay for parking!

    Pros

Loved the teams i worked with but the managers were just ignorant and never wanted to help out.

    Cons

Management was never transpareent and told stories to conceal the truth.

    Advice to Management

    Will never work there again

    Pros

Decent salary and benefits, opportunities to bring in new business since it's a relatively small firm

    Cons

Sub-par performers, poor promotion criteria, below average management

    Advice to Management

Be consistent, be fair, reward strong performers not just based on billable hours

    Pros

Learned alot good start to get into public accounting. The firm as a whole doesn't quite have the resources that the BIG 4 have but it is a friendly and comfortable work environment with good experience on interesting clients.

    Cons

Performance feed back tends to get back to you relatively late in the game hurting your ability to fix your mistakes and issues in the work place.

    Advice to Management

Make your performance feedback especially in the internship program more timely and effective. So that interns may be able to actually address the issues they have in the work place.

    Pros

The staff are friendly and cordial to each other and you virtually always have the ability to work at your home office.

    Cons

The work is not interesting or rewarding, it is hard to leave a project even after a year or more, and the staff turnover is quite high.

    Advice to Management

I work in the government practice, which has no synergy at all with the accounting firm. The CEO is not relevant to our work and does not show much respect for it.

  11. "A company with a great mix of people"

    Pros

    1) There are some really great people at this company - motivated, smart and dynamic
    2) The GT culture is hard to beat - social events include sporting events, many happy hours, picnics...
    3) You can request tickets in the Verizon Center box for multiple events
    4) All hands meetings at the country club are always nice

    Cons

    1) The company is growing fast and cutting back on some of the small things - happy hours etc.
    2) The annual performance review process is not fair to all and the real goals are not given to you up front - it's kind of hard to meet or exceed goals you never knew about. Same goes for getting promoted - nothing is spelled out up front.

    Advice to Management

Please revisit the annual performance review process.
