I worked at Grant Thornton full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

They had a little bit of name recognition. The clients were somewhat recognizable.

    Cons

As a female you are not given the same opportunities. Some partners create a creepy sexually fueled environment. And the other partners are aware and do nothing.

    Advice to Management

Look at the talent you are losing. Evaluate your practice truthfully.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Grant Thornton full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

There are no pros from working here. You will only find confusion, sorrow, exhaustion, obnoxious behavior, arrogance by partners, hoarding of information by coworkers, fatigue, stress, and zero teamwork.

    Cons

Everything about this place was a big negative experience. Partners snorting illicit powdered substances prior to meetings in order to function. Engagement managers doing shady things financially in order to make themselves look good, but to the detriment of their workers. The work is not rewarding and not complex but due to the stifling administrative bureaucracy, what should only take a day ends up taking a week....

    Advice to Management

Fire the substance abusers who are partners, You need to take a long hard look at how you treat your workers and start putting in reasonable limits on working hours instead of the singular obsession with billable hours which ruins work-life balance.

I worked at Grant Thornton full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

I enjoyed working as a technical consultant at Grant Thornton. I had a number of challenging assignments and had a variety of client assignments with some flexibility to work from home. GT University is a great benifit, a place to learn and network within the company. As with any consulting company, the key is having a great team and leadership. The new office downtown in Philly is really nice! The coaching system...

    Cons

I did not care for the performance review system and the closed door 'round table' reviews. You always had to play the politics game, and felt like it was hard sometimes to take on more responsibility.

    Advice to Management

Keep the strong team building events and career development programs. I don't know if it's possible to give a bonus for those that go above and beyond, but it felt like being 100%+ chargeable was not enough.

    "Okay"

    StarStarStarStarStar
Former Employee - Senior Consultant in Alexandria, VA
      Neutral Outlook

I worked at Grant Thornton full-time for more than 6 years

      Pros

Actually committed to work life balance. However, the firm is very top heavy and opportunities are extremely limited. So just okay...

      Cons

No room to advance because the firm is too top heavy. Salary negotiations consist of people threatening to quit because raises are meager, and then partners caving to those demands.

      Advice to Management

Pay your employees what the deserve.
