I have been working at Grant Thornton full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Flexible hours, friendly staff, opportunity to advance quickly, great culture.

    Cons

Opportunities for internal training could be better. Compensation not on par with Big 4.

I worked at Grant Thornton full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

We didn't have much business when I worked there, so I listened to podcasts all day.

    Cons

We had to sit through these ridiculous weekly meetings where we used the most buzz words possible to describe how we were helping out the company. Spoiler alert: everyone was super boring. Any type of somewhat controversial opinion was thoroughly discouraged. They force you to go through an "Unfreezing Session" where you sit and tell your feelings to stranger coworkers.

    Advice to Management

Thaw out the corporate environment, allow your employees to have personalities.

I have been working at Grant Thornton full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

There are some great people to work with Offers flexibility to work from home if it makes sense Some Directors and Partners seem to really care about the life of Associates and Seniors outside of work

    Cons

The hours can be a bit rough, which is expected at a public accounting firm Due to high turnover, currently under staffed causing everyone to be vastly overworked Amount of work and responsibility placed on Associates and Seniors not at all reflected in salary or bonus Bonus was borderline insulting FTO policy is supposed to be a great perk but if you have so much work and responsibility that you know you...

    Advice to Management

You have a lot of very talented people at all levels, you lose some of them because talented people know there are work options that exist that allow them to actually have a life outside of the office Hire more people (easier said than done) so less people are overworked and burned out Don't become a victim of groupthink. If you have people that do not have the typical tax personality (confident, outgoing, etc)...

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Grant Thornton full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

I don't have any positives for New York office.

    Cons

Poor culture with little input/direction from senior managers, partners and practice leaders. Toxic atmosphere. Promotions are stagnant and often takes seven or eight years to become manager which is MUCH longer than Big4 and most other firms. Pay is not competitive. I received a 30,000 base pay bump by switching to a similar tier firm in the city. No camaraderie and segmented practices. Praise given to Managers and...

    Advice to Management

Talk to staff and listen. The environment is toxic and turnover is high for a reason. Allow anonymous upward feedback that allows those in less senior positions to voice complaints. Listen to those complaints. Engage staff in projects and allow staff opportunities that allow them to grow and learn.

I have been working at Grant Thornton full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Great people Open environment Unlimited FTO Great experience I absolutely love the people I work with. They are all so friendly, casual and generally fun to be around.

    Cons

Low salary Hours worked Unappreciated GT really cares about the money, which I know is how a business functions, but they care TOO much. If you're not charging enough time to clients, you're looked down upon, even if you've been spending non-billable time helping the company progress internally. In the end, money is all that matters. They appreciate the people who want to work 7 days a week, and who have no desire...

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the associates, and show more appreciation. Associates prepare everything, and are often looked over for the hard work that they put in. Pay us more so we're less likely to look for a job elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Everyone in management says they care about their People & Culture, but when there is an issues everything is push aside. Management is selfish and only cares about numbers rather than the good of the people that work for them.
