I worked at Gray Television full-time for more than 4 years

      Pros

      - Some people are nice

      Cons

      - Company forces people to complete the work of literally 3-4 people for 10-20k under market rate - Crushed under tight deadlines - Merger with Raycom blew up everything, people leaving and getting fired left and right - Benefits are expensive and next to worthless - No room for advancement

      Advice to Management

Pay people what they're worth and stop asking them to do the work of 4 people

I worked at Gray Television full-time for more than 6 years

      Pros

Bonuses (when they happened) Logo merchandise

      Cons

Horrible Management Low Pay High Stress Overloading employees Horrible morale

      Advice to Management

Too many managers behind closed doors. Treat employees like actual people instead of laborers chained to a desk to do your biding.

      Positive Outlook

I have been working at Gray Television full-time for more than 4 years

      Pros

WFIE is a great place to start a news career. Enough veterans to help coach people coming right out of college. 14 News accomplishes a lot with a small staff, and is the dominant #1 in the market because of the people who are behind daily shows. Would put one of their 6pm newscasts up against bigger markets any time.

      Cons

Consistently understaffed, although that may be more due to the market-size and the number of people going into broadcasting. Newsroom has needed a makeover since about 1995.

      Advice to Management

      Continue encouragement over criticism.

I have been working at Gray Television full-time for more than 6 years

      Pros

      Very few pros, if any.

      Cons

Terrible pay Sub-par benefits Very little paid time off Out-of-touch local and corporate management

      Advice to Management

Pay employees what they’re worth because they make Gray exist. Pay part-time employees holiday pay; I shouldn’t have to make those poor part-timers who are already given table scraps work on Thanksgiving and Christmas for *no extra pay.* Stop putting people on a totem - remember that the rest of the company’s operations depend on the foundation of that totem.
