I worked at Great American Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very interesting work, great exposure to clients. Good comp. Lots of room for advancement. Analysts quickly move up in responsibility. Fun culture within the appraisal group.

    Cons

Lots of turnover. Public company policies.

I worked at Great American Group (More than a year)

    Pros

The environment is very casual and the social aspects can be fun.
There is a lot of support for learning new things and getting feedback on your analysis.

    Cons

The team is spread across multiple offices so a lot of work is done via conference call and email.
The job is very specifically about building up experience on creating liquidation values, so it can get you stuck there.

    Pros

Outstanding compensation, good bonus potential when available based upon deal type. Great place to build a future if you want to control your own destiny and work with a strong deal team.

    Cons

8-12 week work assignments, 7 days on usually 8-10 hours a day placed where needed with less than 4 days notice, based on locations this can erode your compensation somewhat if it is an expensive environment. If your unable to travel or lack the willpower to get down and dirty and work continuously away from home and have a family or young kids this career is not for you.

    Advice to Management

    Nothing at this time

I have been working at Great American Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Great people in the Needham, MA office
-Not expected to work long hours, just get your work done
-Get the opportunity to look at companies in all kinds of industries and see how they do their operations

    Cons

-Niche industry, focus is on inventory appraisals, so only inventory matters

    Advice to Management

-Management is great, just need more perks in order to retain employees because most view it as a step towards the next job

I worked at Great American Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

This is a small company in a niche market. The office is a quiet environment.
    Some people are pretty nice.

    Cons

The company is almost like a "family" mom-and-pop business. If you haven't been there for a while or don't have connections, don't think you gonna make any difference anytime soon.

This is not an environment for serious IT professionals. Their IT group (software) lacks knowledge and experience. The company should obtain better resources.

This is a small company and is cost conscious operation.

    Advice to Management

Use real professional management for HR and IT. This is important.

I worked at Great American Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

GA is dedicated to their employees and committed to creating a positive work environment. I worked in the Needham office (Massachusetts) for 2 years and had an excellent experience there. My coworkers were great, and management was honest, open, and receptive to feedback. An excellent work environment!

    Cons

Occasional long hours, but this was rare and management actively tried to avoid employees working long hours when possible.

    Pros

    Great American Group:

    -Hires employees who are hard-working, highly intelligent, creative, and driven, and you can, and most likely will, learn a lot from them;

-Provides opportunities for outside activities including volunteering and company parties.

    Cons

-At times a hard rigidness amongst some of the personnel, with management more focused on the quality of the project and less focused on the quality of life for the employees, particularly in regards to managing projects while ensuring work hours are at acceptable levels (e.g., 8-9 hours at maximum, even during the busiest time periods).

    Advice to Management

-Being periodically in the trenches with employees, and extending more opportunities for learning new skills and tasks.

-Hire more personnel during the busier months who can help out with easier, more entry level tasks on projects. There was a key period when hours that no human being should have to work (between 80 to 90 per week, on average, over nearly a four-month period) were taking place in order to handle the project load that sales personnel were putting on the books. And upper management seemed nowhere to be found. This is karma that no business entity, or it's leadership, can withstand for long.
