I have been working at Great Clips full-time

    Pros

benefits, clients are nice, workplace is laid back, most coworkers are pretty cool. pay raise after training.

    Cons

manager is iffy. just depends on manager. complains about having to cut hours, but hires more people onto the staff. moody. fits schedule to their own needs.

    Advice to Management

try to listen to your staff more, not just step on them and over look them because without them the salon would not run.

I worked at Great Clips full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Hourly plus tips, they bring the clients to you.

    Cons

Little room for advancement, long hours, mediocre pay. Very factory/assembly line like. Expected to do quality hair cuts in under 20 minutes... It is possible but it is not always the best idea. Some people need more than 20 minutes ... If times were over the limit we would be reprimanded

    Advice to Management

Cut the stylists a break on times. If you don't want re-do's or tired achy employees. I did 21 hair cuts in one shift when there was a coupon out... They work hard to keep up with your standards.

I have been working at Great Clips part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Freedom with hair color, free haircuts, can have peircings, can have tattoos, the dress code is OK, closed on Christmas and Thanksgiving, regular paycheck

    Cons

Very physically draining, expect repetitive motion injuries, corporate changes dress code often, no paid sick days, high turnover, must bring your own tools, customers suck sometimes, haircuts are timed

    Advice to Management

    Pay your employees more

I have been working at Great Clips part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent base pay, loyal clientele. If you're great at what you do. The money will come. Clients are able to request you.

    Cons

Clients smell, and don't tip. Most will refuse a shampoo and if you decline a client a service you're put in jeopardy.

    Advice to Management

Pay the stylist more, offer benefits to managers.

I worked at Great Clips full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Always busy, no sitting around being bored
Built in clientele, no need to recruit
No appointments, means not losing money with a no-show
No hair coloring, for those who perfer the barbering side.
Clip Notes system, makes it easy to determine desired haircut
Great Clips sponsors a lot of programs and charities, including free haircuts for veterans on veterans day, and free haircuts for those battling cancer
Management is flexible with requesting time off
    Paid holidays (3 a year)
    Tips

    Cons

Terrible pay, minimum wage without raises
    Open 7 days a week
    Open very late on weekdays
Generally set schedules are not accepted
    Schedule changes every week
Unrealistic expectations (13-17 minute haircuts, expect to earn $35+/hr for the shop while you only get paid minimum wage)

    Advice to Management

Management should value their employees! Especially the ones who have been there many years and have been denied raises. I've seen too many GREAT hairdresser's leave the company because they felt underappreciated. They need to get rid of the employees that continuously break the rules, habitually show up to work late and are on drugs and keep the ones who accurately represent the great clips brand and reward them for their excellence!
