    Pros

Flexible, Encouragement, Family oriented, Community Involvement, Inner Department Fun, committed to Excellence in Practice

    Cons

I actually cannot think of any CONS. There are issues in every job, so the grass is not always greener on the other side. GRMC is my life and they are good people.

    Advice to Management

    NONE

I worked at Great River Health Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great co-workers, and a good atmosphere and work environment for the most part.

    Cons

10-15% below national (and regional) average salary wise, and rarely promote from within.

    Advice to Management

"Take care of your own" and turnover will decrease drastically! Actions speak louder than words.

    Pros

Stable company. Great, compassionate and caring Senior Management team. Company overall is great. IT department is where the issues are.

    Cons

Nowhere to go in IT. No growth or advancement opportunities. Pay is inferior. IT not well respected in the organization. IT leadership very stifling and does not show appreciation. Do not feel valued. Continued education is virtually nonexistent. No standards or policies, every request is handled on a case by case basis. IT has good old boys club mentality. Much favoritism even with filling open positions.

    Advice to Management

Truly evaluate IT leadership, hold accountable. Expect same level of professionalism, care, compassion, EXCEL values and team work out of IT leader the same as other department leaders.

    Pros

GRMC is a state of the art facility. We have excellant physicians. The building is only 8 years old. We have been showcased for our stroke and heart attack programs. We have a new Heart and Vascular unit. Our in-patient and out patient rehab units are top notch.

    Cons

The Matrix for staffing the units is all wrong. Long term CNA's need to be advanced in pay like everyone else instead of capped out because of their senority. 2-3 % raise a year is not much when there are new RN's that make 30 plus dollars an hour. The corporation needs to stand behind there employee when they need financial help.

    Advice to Management

Get out of the office and work on the floor to remember what it's like

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Great River Health Systems part-time

    Pros

Great Pay! Good Benefits! Union for nurses! PTO is great. They believe in education and will help you with that- loans, grants, flexible scheduling, mentors.

    Cons

PTO starts after probation not day one. Most managers are over stressed causing staff to be stress. Working short is always a downer.

    Advice to Management

    Appreciate the nursing staff more.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Great River Health Systems full-time

    Pros

Information everyone needs to know about illness, growing older and hospitals as well as Medicare and Medicaid knowledge that is beneficial to have and understand.

Strong team in many different ways.

    Excellent pay and benefits

    Cons

    - Long work hours
    - Unrealistic work expectations due to lack of appropriate staff, favoritism shown to staff who may exhibit bad attitudes, lack of motivation and while other staff is openly criticized for small mistakes but posses can-do attitudes/ willingness to learn, and lack of evaluation of processes and process improvement.

    Advice to Management

More positive feedback needed, more serious evaluations of performance of team members (one team member seeing 30 patients a day versus one seeing 5 which happens very frequently), more interest in the staff that work so hard for the hospital to run well and the patients to get the care they need. More leadership there to support when staff calls in or caseload gets too busy to handle.
