    Pros

My specific region was very close knit, lots of resources, good work environment, good customer focus. Great starter job into banking

    Cons

Only way to advance (if you're not in Springfield, MO) is if someone leaves. Not much room to grow and pay is not great. Also bank is a little behind in technology compared to surrounding banks which makes it difficult to explain to customers.

I have been working at Great Southern Bancorp full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Schedule flexibility and good benefits.

    Cons

Company is inundated with nepotism from the top down. Poor leadership.

    Advice to Management

Be professional, be honest, treat your colleagues with respect. Your title does not automatically gain you anyone's respect.

I have been working at Great Southern Bancorp part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible schedule in a friendly, yet professional, environment. Great people to work with; very welcoming and patient with new employee training which is good because there's a lot of it. Many opportunities to gain volunteer experience within the community. A very good way to advance customer service skills.

    Cons

Pay is above minimum wage but should probably be a bit higher with the type of training and responsibilities workers are given. Benefits for part-time are slim to none, which is somewhat expected but still disappointing for those looking for options for healthcare and insurance.

    Advice to Management

Listen to workers about some functions that are obsolete to make day to day activities simpler for both patrons and employees.

I worked at Great Southern Bancorp full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    The schedule, vacation, sick time

    Cons

The company pays poorly across the board. The management likes to blame problems on the employees and refuses to take responsibility for any issues. I would not recommend working here.

    Advice to Management

Stop blaming all the problems on the entry level employees and ask yourself if you could be contributing to the problem.

I worked at Great Southern Bancorp full-time

    Pros

The people at great southern bank operations center are nice people overall. Therected is some room to move around the company if you do not like where you are at. The pay is ok if you have a house loan through them.

    Cons

The people who aren't nice go out of their way to make it hell for everyone else. You have to be careful to stay out of their path. There are some very under qualified and uneducated people in charge, the people who stay around a while get promoted even if the are terrible managers. The pay is not good and everyone is aware of how underpaid they are.

    Advice to Management

I would advise upper management to seek opinions of their managers beneath them. Then ask why some of these people are still around.

I worked at Great Southern Bancorp full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Generally low stress. Mortgage advantage. Co-workers. Hours. Glass door requires a minimum of 20 words for some reason. No idea why they do.

    Cons

Executive and most middle management are totally out of touch with their employees. Extremely arrogant and act like they are better than anyone else. Pay/benefits are not competitive, raises are cheap tokens, even when promoted. Also, executives are hardcore Democrats and offer their facilities to the party for use regularly. They have even sent company emails advising on local candidates who they like.

    Advice to Management

Get in touch. Raise pay. Stay out of politics, at least with your employees.
