I worked at Great Southern Bancorp full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The safety of the retail staff is a priority. Procedures to ensure the security of the staff and buildings are amazing. The buildings and grounds are beautifully maintained. Answers to any questions are just a phone call away; the personnel at the home office are friendly and knowledgeable. Communication from corporate to the branches is clear and timely. The marketing department is enthusiastic and helpful. The accounts and services offered are quality products and can be recommended wholeheartedly.

    Cons

The account opening software is complicated. Bank-wide decisions are made at the corporate level and don't necessarily benefit the local community. Teller errors are communicated widely but quality work/successes are not.

    Advice to Management

Ask for input from staff who have a history in the community. Put seasoned and successful managers in branches that are not growing. Find more positive ways to promote accuracy and compliance.

I worked at Great Southern Bancorp full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

My specific region was very close knit, lots of resources, good work environment, good customer focus. Great starter job into banking

    Cons

Only way to advance (if you're not in Springfield, MO) is if someone leaves. Not much room to grow and pay is not great. Also bank is a little behind in technology compared to surrounding banks which makes it difficult to explain to customers.

I worked at Great Southern Bancorp full-time

    Pros

The people at great southern bank operations center are nice people overall. Therected is some room to move around the company if you do not like where you are at. The pay is ok if you have a house loan through them.

    Cons

The people who aren't nice go out of their way to make it hell for everyone else. You have to be careful to stay out of their path. There are some very under qualified and uneducated people in charge, the people who stay around a while get promoted even if the are terrible managers. The pay is not good and everyone is aware of how underpaid they are.

    Advice to Management

I would advise upper management to seek opinions of their managers beneath them. Then ask why some of these people are still around.
