I worked at Great Southern Bancorp part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The customer service is great because the company pushes their associates to go above and beyond for the consumer.

    Cons

Pay is a major factor. Full time is a thing of the past if you desire to hold a teller position outside of springfield. Team work is at an all time low because none of the associates were motivated at this particular banking center. No set schedule for associates to take a lunch, running risks of not having enough tellers for each customer in the afternoons.

    Advice to Management

Treat the associates fairly. Pay your associates on par with other local banks in the area. Don't dangle the full time carrot over their head to lead them on when the banking center isn't capable of hiring for a full time position because it's unethical. Promote Team member morale and reward those who put in hard work and dedication to their careers- not just for referrals and meeting their monthly quotas, but for attending to the transactions of the consumer and for building that relationship with them. Tellers are the faces of the company in the eyes of the consumer. Make sure to schedule the lunches for your full time tellers. When it's not supervised, they all leave at the same time leaving the lobby and drive through short handed- it makes the company look bad to th consumer.

I have been working at Great Southern Bancorp full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are good people that work there. They are buying banks like crazy so there is some room to grow ... I guess. Other than that I can't say much.

    Cons

Pay! You are paid 2 weeks after the end of the pay period ... which is 15 days long. Yes, you will wait a month before you are paid. Most screwed up pay system I've ever seen.

    Advice to Management

Fix pay schedule, pay people appropriately. Remove obstacles to success. Decentralize control i.e. allow your branch managers to make some decisions.

    Pros

Not really many pros when it comes to this company. It's nice to get out of the office every once in a while.

    Cons

Pay is horrible. Management doesn't care about family values. There is no room to grow in this company. The bank only cares about making money and not its employees

    Advice to Management

Change the management style. Instead of using scare tactics try to be motivating and encourage your employees.

I worked at Great Southern Bancorp full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Free coffee, tea, water, big breakroom, a few other perks.

    Cons

Lowest pay in the market. Mediocre benefits. Terrible management. They care NOTHING about the well-being of their employees. Plus, they did not disclose to me that they have an agreement with Jack Henry and Associates regarding a one year moratorium on GS employees going to work for JHA. The reason they do that is because they know they pay a pathetically low wage and know that they would lose many people to JHA if they allowed them to leave to go there. They're all about the dollar. And care for nothing else.

    Advice to Management

Be honest and forthcoming with your employees.

    Pros

    The schedule, vacation, sick time

    Cons

The company pays poorly across the board. The management likes to blame problems on the employees and refuses to take responsibility for any issues. I would not recommend working here.

    Advice to Management

Stop blaming all the problems on the entry level employees and ask yourself if you could be contributing to the problem.

    Cons

Low pay. Upper management does not have any clue what is going on in the banking centers. A lot of favoritism

    Pros

Good base pay, great supervisor & coworkers, awesome schedule, looks nice on a resume

    Cons

Clueless management doesn't understand the cultural differences between states & has flip-flopping rules and procedures (extremely tedious!!)

    Advice to Management

Make corporate up of people NOT JUST FROM MISSOURI. And for goodness sake hire an efficiency expert.., you'd save tons of time, money, and complaints.

I worked at Great Southern Bancorp full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great Southern offers decent employee benefits. The insurance is expensive to the employee, but is good coverage. Also have good plan for stock purchase.

    Cons

There is little to no communication between upper management and employees. Too many people know just steps to complete tasks in their job, but they have no understanding of why they do what they do. The training is terrible. There is no flexibility. Management will tell you there is opportunity to move up or move around the bank, but if you do try to move, they will stop you.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to communicate more with employees. Management also needs to provide the opportunity for their employees to better themselves within the company. You're employees are your strongest asset!

    Pros

The workers and most of the offficers are nice, dedicated and intelligent.

    Cons

Executive management is completely out of touch with reality and common sense.

    Advice to Management

It's not a game. Most of the staff actually want to make the organization successful.

I worked at Great Southern Bancorp part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Usually good people to work with, it is an easy job, there is often opportunity to meet cool people because it attracts the college age dynamic

    Cons

Pay is terrible, high turn over, management is unprofessional and gossipy. They do not work well with schedules or families and often pick favorites. Management will often bend rules for certain customers and create huge issues.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees with more respect. Understand that all other banks in town pay at least $2 an hour more with true bankers hours and with a good working relationship with the employees it could be worth it
