I have been working at Great Southern Wood as an intern (More than 10 years)

    Pros

You can get away with drinking on the job, call off whenever you want, and as long as your a yes man you'll never get in trouble.

    Cons

Poor management, low pay, long hours, expensive health benefits, safety is a joke,

    Advice to Management

Don't threaten employees with violence, listen to your employees, pay your employees what they are worth, don't tell your employees they are all worthless, stop cussing at your employees, and stop saying sexual orientated comments to the 1 female employee. Give your employees heat for the break room and ensure the toilets work properly

I worked at Great Southern Wood full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Employees gain rapid access and vast knowledge of various business units in a short period of time.

    Cons

Low Pay. Lies about rapid advancement. No upward mobility within the next 20 years.
Pay ceiling. Management is very quick to remind you to stay in your place and don't ask for anything. Company is located in small town Alabama. All locations are in the middle of nowhere!

    Advice to Management

Get realistic about what you have to do to keep employees happy these days. Good benefits, better working environments, better pay. When someone ask you why you're the only company not offering these things, don't just make up a lie and then fire them....
