I have been working at Great Western Bancorp full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-Some of my coworkers have turned into great friends.
    -PTO/Benefits are nice
    - Consistent schedule
    - if you're in the "in" crowd, the environment can be pretty awesome.
    - Totally depends on which branch your in. I bounced around a bit, and some branches were awesome, amazing places to work. The others... well... not so great. Unfortunately the not so great branches shed some light on how this company operates...

    Cons

    - It is impossible to take your PTO. There's always some excuse, and you lose it if you don't take it. I've heard of people getting denied PTO for health reasons. I'm pretty sure that's illegal.....
    - NO TRAINING: there is ABSOLUTELY NO training program for new hires/promotions. You are on your own. I repeat. NO.TRAINING.
    - NO STAFF: I cannot stress this enough. If you decide to work here, you will most certainly be at a branch with one to two people less than what's needed. they keep every branch SO bone dry. Which also plays into the PTO issues, along with safety issues....
    - Like above, if you're in the "in" crowd the environment is great. I was lucky enough to be in that crowd. However, the way they treat other employees if they are not in this crowd is horrendous. It can make for a hostile work environment. I'm honestly surprised GWB hasn't gotten sued over this.
    - Practices and procedures are very inconsistent across branches.
    - Pay is not competitive with other banks - especially in areas where the cost of living is fairly high.
    - They will pay significantly more for outside hires rather than focusing on their current culture and promoting from within. It's really hard to move up, it's even harder to get paid appropriately for a promotion.
    - They promise big things for you, and then don't deliver.

*There is a reason why employees of 10+ years are dropping like flies from this place. If you look at most of the reviews from long term employees, they are mostly negative. The ones from people who worked one year or less are positive. I was wearing the rose colored glasses for a long time when I first started here too, but take the advice from the employees who worked here for years and years. Because that's how this company treats their long term employees. why would you want to work for a company that throws their loyal people out like trash? I'm out as soon as I can get out.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your people. Happy employees = happy customers = profitable business. You are nothing without your people, start acting like you care.

I have been working at Great Western Bancorp full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great work environment. Low stress overral. Work hours are good for a work life balance.

    Cons

Pay is horrible in comparison to other Banks in the Colorado area. The same company pays more in other states that have lower cost of living. Low base pay and low incentives. Retention is an issue.

    Advice to Management

Follow through with employee surveys. Retention is an issue that needs to be addressed. Pay should be based on the local economy and experience. Incentives should be done company wide and should help drive company growth. Happy employees make for happy customers and company growth.
