Good pay and benefits package.

Some employees work very hard, and those employees carry slackers whom management ignores. Management cannot be bothered to work on poor performers because this place is constantly hiring.

Pros
GreatAmerica understands that family is family, and they will do anything for anyone of us. They are flexible beyond what a normal company would do for their employees. They go above and beyond to make each day better than the last.
Cons
Pay and Compensation We struggle to get what we deserve for pay. Myself and others are well below the state, local, federal 'average' pay when it comes to our roles

I'm sorry to hear you feel your pay is not commensurate with your role. It's important for employees to feel fairly compensated for the work they do, and for an organization to be able to attract and retain top talent, it's crucial to offer competitive pay. If you feel that you are being underpaid, it may be worth having a conversation with your manager or HR representative to discuss your concerns and try to find a resolution. It can also be helpful to research industry benchmarks and salary data for similar roles in your area to ensure that you have a clear understanding of what is considered fair and competitive pay. We aim to be at or above market in our pay and are transparent about the variables we look at to determine fair and equitable pay, so please don't hesitate to bring this to our attention in a manner in which we can address this. Thank you so much for your candid feedback in addition to the positive aspects you shared around our culture!

Pros
Definitely a decent place to work but over promised and under delivered. If you say you’re going to hear the ideas of everyone, then you should stick to that and explore those options rather than brush them aside as stupid.
Cons
PTO was good, great 401k but poor work life balance.

Benifits are great! PTO is very generous!
Cons
Very cliquey in some parts. If you’re in you’re in, but if you are not one of the popular people things are harder for you.

Pros
There are a lot of things that make GreatAmerica an excellent place to work, such as the culture, the exciting opportunities to grow, and the people that surround you, but what makes it really great is the direct impact you personally can have on all of those things. Personally, the freedom I have in my role (and the accompanying trust my leaders have in me) is something I wouldn't exchange for anything. I feel like I lucked out by both A) winding up at GreatAmerica, and B) landing in my particular role. That being said, it's important for me to emphasis that they are focused on hiring the right people first, whereas finding the perfect fit comes second. They've even gone so far as to make custom roles for people who don't fit the predetermined mold. Seeing a company take those extra strides to keep their talent is really encouraging as an employee!
Cons
The company can be a little old fashioned in some ways (i.e. they seem to want people to primarily work in the office rather than from home, even though we have the capability to do so now), but it's coming from a good place. They want us to have this united, team structure with all of the comradery that comes with being in the office. This is a structure I personally enjoy, but I think they should offer WFH up as more of an option to those team members that would benefit from it.

Cons

Almost Great
Dec 29, 2021 - Training and Development Manager in Cedar Rapids, IARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Work with great people at a privately held company with a local owner. Employees get the opportunity to get involved with projects early on when they show their ability to manage their day-to-day responsibilities well.
Cons
Not competitive salary for current employees and very difficult to get a market alignment salary review. Very proud of their past success (which they should be) and have strong focus on that within the organization. This leads to slow adaptation to any changes throughout the organization because the thought that what has been done should continue to work.

Pros
Coworkers are generally friendly on the surface. Pay is decent for the area and job description. Advancement opportunities exist with the ability to transition to different role types.
Cons
The culture takes on the same characteristics as a cult. From the day you start all you hear about is how they employ the best people and nobody ever leaves. Rather than promoting diversity, management and staff focus on forcing employees into a hivemind culture, going beyond the work responsibilities and into general personality traits. Extremely cliquey. Pod members will have group chats thru text or office messenger and exclude other team members, so you will hear 3 people laugh and be the only person not in on the joke. High performers can be shunned and disciplined for making other teammates "feel bad" including if a person takes lunch at their desk. Faux-Silicon Valley culture. Claim to be progressive and relaxed however outside of the ability to wear jeans, they operate as an older school financial industry. All males generally have the same look and attire profile and individualism is met with resistance. Heavy resistance on WFH eventhough the industry has shifted that way. Reviews lack any substantive empirical review and are extremely vague and subjective. Comments like "you seem bored" or "struggling to engage with team" are used to justify average or below review scores when proficiency, accuracy, and standard KPIs are above expectation. Management and HR are not transparent, open, or communicative when asked for further explanation or for suggestions on improvement.

As a member of our Human Resources Team in Talent Acquisition, I am deeply sorry to hear that your experience was not favorable. It’s true, the culture here at GreatAmerica is unique. GreatAmerica was founded in 1992 and some of the original employees are still with GreatAmerica today. We have many tenured team members throughout the organization.
