I worked at Greatbatch (Less than a year)

    Pros

Worked as a contractor for a 3 month position that was extended to 6 months. When I asked Superior Technical Resources if the job could go permanent, I was told "you never know". They knew and the job was never made permanent. Greatbatch will keep calling you back to be a "temp".

    Cons

Not a permanent position. Witnessed long-term employees being treated without respect and dignity. They hired a boss over a person that had been the boss for over 20+ years, it was an ambush.

    Advice to Management

Treat your long time employees with the respect and dignity they have earned.

I have been working at Greatbatch full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great people, salary, generous tuition reimbursement, flexible work schedule

    Cons

Access to Executive Management, Lack of clearly communicated company strategy as many of the aquisitions are spread out through the world no clear overall direction is given. Information systems and tools leave a lot to be desired. Without valid and timely data to measure the health of the organization (including Metrics) they really rely on top line revenue as a major indicator of organizational health. Most companies will look at a number of other indicators as well as top level revenue (example EBITDA)

    Advice to Management

Invest in a way to get everyone on the same sheet of music. Communication tools such as Lync that allow you to quickly communicate with each other and clearly communicate and regularly be present in front of ALL the employees. Set top level KPIs and assign you middle management the responsibility to roll the policy deployment out to the rest of the organization. Once the metrics are set, DO NOT forget about them.... continuously report and celebrate them when you meet or exceed them and when you don't, have an honest discussion if the Metric was set to high initially (remember the true meaning of "Kaizen".

    I worked at Greatbatch full-time

    Pros

The longer termed people were excellent, but they were becoming far and few between. When I was there the company was in acquisition mode, which was nice.

    Cons

Executive leadership became very disengaged from the rank-and-file. The company went from the kind of place where you could high-five the CEO in the hallway to not being allowed in the executive suite because you were not the right class. It went from a company that treated everyone the same to a class-based system.

    Advice to Management

Have less emphasis on MBA's, try to engage everyone
