"Pretty poor experience. Despite protestations to the contrary - this is a tough and calloused environment."

    Pros

If you care about the Jewish community, you cannot ignore the Federation.

Highly bureaucratic environment. Creativity is eschewed for process. Can be overly reliant on often unreliable lay leaders. Mediocre pay. Awful benefits.

Regular Hours don't exist.... large organization takes time to change.

    Advice to Management

Trust the people you hired to do there job, they are some of the best in the business.

I worked at Greater Miami Jewish Federation full-time

    Pros

I loved working here, the salary was great and I received training and experience in many other areas. The more you know the system and donors, the easier it is to rise up.

    Cons

I would not say there were many cons working here, it was easy to keep my hours and overtime was hardly ever required.

    Advice to Management

You are doing a great job, keep up the great work. I loved my time here, thank you!

I have been working at Greater Miami Jewish Federation (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Really great mission, you can tell everyone truly believes in the work.

    Cons

Raises are nonexistent, No advancement opportunities...ever. Benefits are a joke, health insurance is very expensive so forget about adding your family and the retirement match is insulting. No work/life balance. Managers, CEO, everyone plays favorites. Don't bother having any new ideas, they want to continue to do everything like it was 1975 still.

    Advice to Management

People will continue to leave if moral and benefits are not improved. INVEST more in staff salaries not just PD.

I have been working at Greater Miami Jewish Federation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

People are generally nice and supportive of each other. The organization serves an important purpose in the community and the majority of employees believe in what they are doing not just as a job but as a service.

    Cons

No opportunities to advance within the organization, the salaries and benefits are a joke and there are really no incentives to do more than the bare minimum at your job

    Advice to Management

If you want to keep good people you need to offer more reasons for them to stay. Believing in the mission only works for so long. More tangible recognition and other benefits need to be put in place.

I have been working at Greater Miami Jewish Federation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You get the Jewish holidays in addition to regular vacation time

    Cons

Where to start? No advancement opportunities. NONE. Benefits are terrible and unaffordable to put your family on the health plan. Parental leave? What's that? Raises are non existent and are given across the board to everyone at the same rate so there is no incentive to work hard, so mediocrity is rampant.
