I have been working at Green Dot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Most areas have strong culture and team work, tech company atmosphere, good people all around

    Cons

A few mercurial people make life difficult, and our implementation of Agile needs some work - we actually have more process than we did using waterfall. Using a non-standard job classification structure limits employees marketability.

    Advice to Management

Consider more pro-active approaches to our legacy systems - waiting for them to break under load is the most expensive way to fix them.

I worked at Green Dot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The product is good, though in a business fraught with issues.

    Cons

The management is increasingly out of touch with the difference between running a company and appeasing shareholders. With recent attrition, multiple quick to market new products (read: lots of band aids on the back end), and pressure from investors, it will be a company facing a lot of upheavals in the near future.

    Advice to Management

Don't under-estimate the value of planning and understanding.

    Pros

Most of the people here are really easy to get along with and fun to work with.

    Cons

Terrible executive leadership who have no idea what it takes to successfully run a company. Things are being pushed at a rate which is causing rapid burn-out amongst staff, and there has been a pretty large mass exodus from the Dot over the past few months. Most people who are there are so burnt out that they're expeditiously working on their exit strategy. In order to fix this, we need a new CEO, COO, CDO ... You see where i'm going with this? Executive management needs to go ASAP.

    Advice to Management

Changed needs to happen, and it needs to start at the top with the CEO.

    Pros

Green Dot is a terrific place to make your mark. The pace is fast and the work is challenging. You can really make a difference here if you are motivated and smart.

    Cons

Change is the name of the game here. You have to be able to adapt quickly. If continous change makes you nervous, this is not the place for you.

I have been working at Green Dot full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great office, competitive salary, career growth opportunities with a very diverse staff. You will learn your job along with other skills to advance your overall career. Good health benefits and bonuses.

    Cons

New products are implemented too fast and before all of the kinks are worked out. Very reactive environment and not enough strategic planning.

    Advice to Management

Slow down and perfect products and services. Completely fix what's broken before moving to the next project. Invest in more qualified staff so the current team is not burned out from being over worked and wearing multiple hats.

I worked at Green Dot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    * People are great, culture is pretty relaxed
    * Insurance is decent and bonuses are good
    * Company is fairly tolerant of family time

    Cons

    * Huge CXO turnover in the last 3-4 years (CFO replaced, CMO replaced, CPO gone)
    * Support and IT Help reduced to bare minimum levels to reduce expenses
    * Any strategic plans get thrown out if they don't product immediateiyl, no patience or integrity to stick to a well-constructed plan
    * Infrastructure is rickety and precarious, Google "Walmart" and "Green Dot" to see the news about the multi-day outage affecting millions of customers
    * Culture at the top levels is poisonous

    Advice to Management

    * Make people at all levels accountable. When things happen, a particular executive calls a meeting to find out what happened and says "no one is going to get into trouble". This isn't kindergarten. And someone does get into trouble, so it's both humiliating and a boldfaced lie.

I have been working at Green Dot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Outstanding health benefits and other perks including Stock purchase plan.
    Autonomy, to a degree.

    Cons

Time Off leaves much to be desired. 2 weeks to start isn't anything to write home about.
General business direction /organization can be frustrating as project development seems to linger forever without coming to fruition, and then will be tabled for 6 months and suddenly revived out of nowhere.

    Advice to Management

Time to look at where things are really headed with Green Dot, which has a promising future if the overall business strategy and plans were ever clarified.
