Cons
They don’t initially tell most new hires they will be 1099. Obviously this means no benefits whatsoever and you will be paying into the IRS. In the event the business shuts down (which is likely) or they roll out layoffs you will not be eligible for unemployment. Yet, you have a schedule you have to adhere to and are required to be available via phone during & after business hours. All of the positions should legally be held by employees but you’ll be labeled contract labor for their tax purposes. They will try to convince you this is beneficial for you. I urge you to do your own research if you’re not familiar. It is a scam and it is illegal. There are quite a few questionably legal things that go on. A job is not worth being arrested for. You’ll be promised great potential for growth which in actuality is very limited if attainable at all. When business is not going well, expect pay cuts without warning for work you’ve already completed. The pay system is set up in such a way that you are not compensated for ten days following the monthly pay period. No one has ever been able or willing to explain why this is. Multiple workers have chosen to leave on payday and accept they won’t be paid for those ten days as leaving on good terms is nearly impossible. The “business” is grossly mismanaged. A lot of short sighted get rich quick schemes seem to be the motivating factor in how everything runs. No genuine care for the quality of product- (whatever is cheapest way to operate). Over the last couple of years morale and integrity have taken a nosedive. Very unhealthy and unstable work environment. Shouting matches are the norm for addressing issues with workers and vendors. It gets very condescending, disrespectful and vulgar. Retaliation and intimidation regularly occur. The lack of professionalism and ethical solution based problem solving is astounding.
