I have been working at Green River College full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Campus is nice and quite. Good location if you live nearby.

    Cons

Let go without any warning or reason near the end of my probation period. From other former employees I have spoken to, this is common. Job description was nearly 100% false. Turned out to be a glorified receptionist taking student registration most of the time or printing off documents for Continuing Ed instructors. Management was rude and unwilling to teach, especially after only 2 days of cross training with... previous coordinator before they left after being there for years. Not fully explained required tasks or standards, then blamed if not done 100% correctly while still learning the position. Union, which initially said they would try and find placement for me elsewhere in the college, but wen't silent after my last day. Never told as to why let go. Felt like no one truly cared about the department. Manager was planning on quitting after less than a year of taking over the position. Same manager also rifled through personal documents and belongings and even took personal documents while meeting with Union to be told of termination of my position. Terrible shift hours. Usually onsite from 10AM to 7PM and often had to stay late as some Continuing Ed classes didn't begin until that time and needed support or help.

    Advice to Management

Don't lie about what your job entails. Don't tell applicants they will get to work creatively and support the growth of the department only to have them sitting around answering phone calls all day and putting up signage for classes. Be honest when you let someone go so they know what they did wrong and how to grow. Take the time to understand that not everyone fills the shoes of a past, 3+ year employee with less... than 2 days training in a matter of 60 days and not getting frustrated at that. Treat new employees like actual people. Don't have your less than a year old manager (who was planning on leaving after less than a year anyway) go through personal documents and steal them at the same time having an employee be told they are being let go.

I worked at Green River College part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Students and campus were good

    Cons

part-time instructor pay more than 35% lower than every other nearby college because full-timer pay is significantly higher. Due to the part-time and full-time split, culture is very unhealthy, and the administration is only hurting that with the 3rd president in 3 years.

I worked at Green River College

    Pros

Beautiful campus, with a few decent people, new president seems to be on the right track.

    Cons

There is a ton of turnover, and the people that are stuck here, understandably, hate their jobs. Administration is extremely oppressive and unintuitively seem to put effort into fighting against their employees rather than for them. Zero visible effort is made for employees who seem to be constantly fighting just to be treated fairly.

    Advice to Management

Reevaluate priorities for retention, and figure out you're on the same team. Take responsibility and stop shifting your problems. Figure it out, communicate, and act. Enough power episodes, and division efforts. Ask why none of your employees are happy and make an effort fix it.
