    Pros

Interesting development ideas and an opportunity to bring it to market. Great team members. Good funding while it lasted.

    Cons

Difficult competitive environment led to choices on technology that were difficult to execute in a rapidly changing environment.

    Advice to Management

Choose to focus and follow through , bring funds to bear on execution, and resist the competitive direction in the market if it requires fundamental re-working.

Exciting environment, good compensation. The leadership team was very excited about possibilities, and stayed positive until the end.

    Cons

Leadership team took large risks which didn't pay off. There were issues that were not communicated to the staff, which played a part in the demise.

I worked at GreenVolts full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

New technology application was interesting. Most of the engineers were great people to work with. The location (SF) was fun.

    Cons

Lack of upper engineering leadership with experience appropriate to complex new electromechanical product engineering driving to defined, reasonable targets was a key shortcoming which ultimately led to late product not meeting requirements. Top heavy with executives with inappropriate experience. Revolving-door VPs contributed to the chaos rather than taming it. Needed more sharp engineers.

    Advice to Management

Founder/CEO with no "hard" engineering background should not have felt himself eminently qualified to be involved with engineering. He should have focused his efforts on hiring and retaining a quality engineering VP (read: DOMAIN SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE and APPROPRIATE MANAGEMENT STYLE) with full authority over engineering.

    I worked at GreenVolts full-time

    Pros

Greenvolts product design had the potential to be industry leading for cost and performance. A very creative design team and some very talented individuals to support. Complete product concept was a great way to go.

    Cons

The management team was not able to preserve cash well enough to make it to volume.
Too much confidence that a design that pushed the envelope would not precipitate problems

    Advice to Management

Next time don't put all your eggs in one basket

I worked at GreenVolts full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great product marketing opportunity. Great funding potential. With engineering solution and customer base, stock could take off. Tier 1 manufacturing partner provides plenty of upside.

    Cons

No long-term funding. Lousy engineering management...seat of the pants rather than data driven. Noisy, low-cost office environment.

    Advice to Management

Replace engineering leadership. Prove engineering design locally first and then move offshore for volume manufacturing.

    Pros

Important to expand use of solar energy and a good company for doing that.

    Cons

Fremont is a drag and solar energy is a tough market right now.

    Advice to Management

Don't let the investors have to much say in how things go.
